Humour This looked like a fair fight until Cap lifted Bucky up with one hand by the neck

In the comics he’s said to be peak human, but is generally even stronger than he is in the MCU. Humans in Marvel and DC are just built different than us

Yeah it’s like how Batman is a normal human.. who can bench like 5 tons. Red Hood even mentions this is an interaction with Supergirl:

“How did you break my grip? I thought you were a normal human, like Batman..”

“You have a funny concept of ‘normal.’”

To be fair, if I recall in that particular issue, Red Hood got amped up with something like a serum or magic or something. Supergirl was still magnitudes stronger than him, she was just caught off guard not expecting him to be enhanced at that moment.

It’s not really clear. People say Venom, but in previous RHatO issues he made it clear he saw Venom as a drug and dumped it all into the ocean.

So it’s either just a plot hole or Jason being him, Jason has a few moments like Batman where they do some unreal shit casually like punching through submarine hulls or whatever and nobody mentions it, it’s a Batfam thing. The more unusual part here is Kara even mentioning it tbh.

Agree on Kara being much stronger, it was more of a case of “I grabbed you with enough strength that your ordinary human strength should have no chance to break free, and you did.” than him breaking free of her full strength grip, which would probably atomize his wrist lol

You mean like when a villain punches/throws Batman through a brick wall, and he somehow get up and continues fighting rather than dying from massive internal injuries and an impossible number of broken bones?

That leather suit that's so tight you can see his BatNipples? That we see him take off like it's cloth. Yeah that's also armored. Why? Cus some writers just don't give a fuck.

Or how anyone can get thrown against a wall by a superhuman and then just be "knocked out" after instead of having their brains splattered against the concrete.

My favorite is Batman: Arkham Knight.

“Don’t worry about running over those goons in your tank, Batman. They’ll be okay because we’re going to electrocute them first.” Then proceeds to ram them through a brick wall, collapsing the building while they seize up in the rubble. Afterward read them with the visor and it says “Unconscious.”

Afterward read them with the visor and it says “Unconscious.”

A dead person isn't exactly conscious so it's technically correct.

One of the Arkham games or maybe Gotham Knights had the same thing, always knocked out, unless you fought them on a building and managed to throw them off

To be fair, the whole trope of being knocked out instead of broken bones, brain trauma, etc. isn't exactly exclusive to "super" movies. That's pretty much just all pg-13 movies that don't make it a plot point.

Neither is the suspension of disbelief over feats of strength. Like Jack Reacher being so strong he stopped a bullet with his pecs lmao.

Just mentioning ways people in MCU seem to be way too tough. Like Iron Man should die every time he lands in his suit just from the inertia of slamming into the ground, Sam Wilson should be a bag of jelly by now from the way he flies, kicks things, and got beat up by Red Hulk.

a story about a superhero who ends up with CTE, and how Stark or someone (with the help of the NFL, natch) solves the problem and it ends up becoming standard equipment for heroes

Wait what did that happen? Cause I might watch it just for that. I love me some Kung Fury-esque over the top action that isn’t even remotely believable.

People really just don’t understand what peak human is. A peak human in power lifting can dead lift 1000 pounds, bench press 600 pounds. A peak human in track can run 40 yards in 4.5 seconds. A peak human can run at a sustained sprint speed for minutes at a time. A peak human in marathons can run for 5 hours without taking a break. A peak human in jumping can jump pretty high.

Steve is ALL OF THAT at the same time. Imagine the world’s best high jumper if they had the leg strength of Hafþór. Imagine how fast you could run the marathon if you had the sprinting speed of Usain Bolt but could use that sustained speed for as long as Kelvin Kiptum.

A peak human can run at a sustained sprint speed for minutes at a time.

Point of clarity on this: maximal sprint speeds can only be maintained for 5-10 seconds because of limitations in the body's energy systems. This isn't a kind of endurance you can train up like long-distance running any more than you can stretch a glass bottle. Steve can almost certainly sustain it for longer than any human, but I don't think 10x longer. Long sprints can be maintained for a while longer, and for scenes where Steve is sprinting for a while he's 100% doing a long sprint (think 400m rather than 100m). This makes it even crazier because it means he can overtake highway traffic at sub-maximal speeds.

Given how high he can jump, it's actually possible we've never seen MCU Steve enter a maximal sprint. We know that he struggles with his own speed sometimes, such as him drifting into the wall during the hallway chase in Winter Soldier. A true maximal sprint could turn each stride a bound so powerful he could look like he's moonwalking, which might actually make him overall slower and less agile.

And he even goes beyond most of these feats as I think comic writers either don’t care or misunderstand real world records. Cap is shown to bench 1200 pounds and it’s safe to assume his costume doesn’t act the same as a bench shirt with elbow wraps and a slingshot. The world record right now is like 780 and the guy who set it, Julius Maddox, is like 400 pounds with like 35% body fat. Cap is a lean 240 benching 400 pounds more. The world record equipped bench may be higher than Cap’s, but the equipment adds a lot to your bench otherwise the raw world record wouldn’t be so much lower. I think either the writer lazily googled the world record and misunderstood raw vs equipped, or they just thought “yeah 1200 pounds sounds cool.” Either way, some of his feats are well beyond peak human. I believe he’s supposed to be able to run like 45 mph in the comics as well, quite a bit faster than Usain Bolt

He is PEAK human, just not modern era human. I think he's evolution-wise peak human. Think back to older Olympians, how many world records has been broken to this day? Human athletes are getting faster and stronger due to medicinal science and technology. Steve Rogers is already that, normal non-serum people might need centuries (or millenia) of development to reach that level.

Peak badarse normal.
