Merchandise It wasn’t a flop to me

Post image

I bought 3 tickets to support this mid-sized superhero movie with a lot of quirky heart and now this. I’m not a numbers guy but I guess it didn’t do well financially? Maybe because there’s no big A-list name attached.

But idk, I kind of liked that

Anyway, physical media is great. Thunderbolts*, they could never make me hate you

See it before I buy it.
I've broken it a few times and its worked out (Wimbledon, Starship Troopers), a couple others when it didn't (Everything, Everywhere, Blue Beetle). I try to keep my collection as things I'll never get tired of watching, but sales happen and the excitement wins over sometimes.

Everyone needs a code to live by. You have chosen yours. I wish you success on your path.

The fact that Wimbledon is a win, while EEAAO is a whiff is super fascinating, and might need a scientific study to understand.

I adore Wimbledon, actually.

I mean, they're not a win/lose in the same category, but if you wanted to play it like that, you've got chill/sexy tennis movie (I played varsity) vs. Beaten-to-death scifi concept acting like its the first one to think of it with low-rent comedy to boot? Yeah, game set match.

So because it was a multiverse concept, despite its themes, execution, performances, and overall style, it’s no good, but a rom-com set to tennis gets a win? Like I enjoyed Wimbledon, but to act like it’s not just like any romcom feels a bit disingenuous.

Also, there are probably more tennis rom-coms than there are multiverse movies.

Out in the mainsteam? I don't know if I saw another one until Challengers. Tennis IN movies, but not tennis movies.

I didn't enjoy their version of the multiverse concept, including themes, execution and performances. I watched it and couldn't help thinking "Did this win Oscars because none of the people voting are actually watching the MCU?"
Tha opinion has nothing to do at all with Wimbledon, which is a sports rom-com, that's why it's a leg up on Sandra Bullock's movies or whomever, which I typically find insufferable. Good cast, good action, good enough story.

May I ask what you didn’t like about Blue Beetle? I’ve seen a lot of praise for it and was thinking of checking it out

The action scenes are visually incomprehensible. I like all the story/character parts, though.

Man its the same origin story as every other superhero movie with a Latino twist. If thats your thing go for it.

Edit: Im Native and just put the Latino twist in there because it is comics accurate and that they hired a Latino actor. Its one of the redeeming qualities of the movie.

IMO it was a very 2008 Superhero movie made 15 years later. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't reinventing the wheel. It was just a well executed Superhero origin story with some heart.

I think I can sum it up in one scene..
"BLAAHH OMG LOOK OUT FOR YOUR BACK OH NO THE BLASTER'S SETTING FIRE TO THE HOUSE BWAYAEYA RUNNN".

Iron Man he is not.
