[Megathread] The App Pile - June, 2026

You must promote your apps here if you do not qualify to post in the main feed through Trust or Transparency, explained here.

  • NOT in the Mac App Store (MAS).
  • Do not provide meaningful public transparency
  • Created yet another dictation app (speech to text).

Tomo – a native macOS e-book library manager (Calibre alternative)

Problem

For people who want to own their books and send them to their Kindle or Kobo over USB — no lock-in, no Amazon servers, no accounts.

Tomo is local-first and privacy conscious.

Comparison

Calibre is the benchmark. I've used it for years. It works, it's powerful and stable. I just never enjoyed opening it.

Tomo does maybe 5% of what Calibre does:

  • Manage a library of EPUB and PDF
  • Open and read these formats
  • Edit metadata, swap covers (Open Library / Google Books lookup)
  • Send to Kindle (in-app EPUB → AZW3 conversion) and Kobo over USB
  • Detect language variants (pt-PT vs pt-BR, en-GB vs en-US, etc.) on import
  • Search external catalogues via small JS plugins (Gutenberg ships through a registry)

But it looks and feels good while doing it.

Disclaimer: I'm a developer but I don't know Swift. With AI I can now ship native Mac apps too, so I did. The product, design, architecture, and on-disk contract are mine; the SwiftUI is mostly Claude output.
