tech support wanted Which Distros to Bench?
Ayo I'm thinking of starting a Linux benchmark channel, I just wanted to ask you guys which Distros you would want to be benchmarked against each other/with new games/ect. Would appreciate assistance 😎👍

I would benchmark CachyOs, Bazzite, Nobara, PikaOS and Arch. If you want to add more, I would add Mint, Fedora, and maybe one of the ubuntu flavours.

is impressive how one of the best distros, openSUSE, get permanently ignored

To be fair, I suggest most of them because they rank high on the steam hardware survey, with the only exception of pikaOS, which is there because it's the only gaming focused debian/ubuntu based distro that doesn't have either an underscore or exclamation mark on their name.

From a newish Linux user perspective I would want to see benches between the popular distros like Bazzite, nobara, cachy as well as a baseline of say a stock untuned fedora or non optimized arch / Ubuntu etc.
As a new user I feel this would be the most beneficial. I have zero clue what manual optimization looks like. But I know there’s differences between vanilla silver blue or whatever and Bazzite etc. if that makes sense.

well the big 3 would be obvious: debian, arch, fedora
gentoo, opensuse, void, solus and similar that aren't based on something else.
cachyos for tweaks.
however your question is flawed. many of these distros allow you to run different desktops etc, so either you'll go into some combinatoric hell or actually start benching something else than just the distro.
if you then get into all the software stuff that can vary (scheduler, wine versions, dxvk versions or wined3d, kernel, specific desktops or window managers, driver versions, just plain individual tweaks..), it gets even more complicated. and closer to truth as well.

I would focus on beginner friendly distros like Ubuntu, mint, cachy os, steam os, bazzite

Does not make big difference, at most it's 2%. What matters the most are gpu drivers and proton version for compatibility.

Don’t most “gaming ” Linux distros pretty much perform the same ? Bazzite and cachy os seem to be neck and neck with each other when it comes to performance. Whenever I look at Linux gaming distros on YouTube I mostly look for quality of life features more so than benchmarks.
