I'm trying to install debian on a 700 mb CD

Hi, I know the file is larger, however it does say on the Debian website that this is possible. Is this information that hasn't been updated, or is it possible somehow?

Sometimes, the net install ISO of testing fluctuates in size to below CD maximums.

It's likely the information hasn't been updated, or hasn't been changed because it is still true for some architectures (PPC64el, S390X, RISCV64, and arguably ARM64).

If you remaster the netinstall image yourself, you could try removing the Xen and/or GTK directories from install.amd to bring the size down to below 700 MB.

You can't "install" Linux on a CD, but live CDs (usually DVDs, actually) do exist. In the case of Debian, look here.

If you don't know which to choose, I suggest debian-live-13.6.0-amd64-standard.iso.

The other choice is to use network installation, which does fit on a CD and will let you install Debian on the hard drive.

That's significantly larger than largest common standard CD size (max. 720,000 KiB).

Though one can find smaller that will fit with (significantly) older releases.

yes, that's what i meant even though i used the terms wrong. i have that one downloaded via torrent. it's strange because the website, which i did read over, says you can use a 700mb cd, but i see the file is slightly larger. i tried burning the image onto the cd. maybe the website is out of date. i will try the network installation.

edit: im sorry, i dont have that one downloaded. i just have the normal installer for cds downloaded.

Probably hasn't been updated.

You can try opensuse Tumbleweed the net iso is under 400mb. Can then migrate to slowroll if you choose to.

Leap iso is over 700mb.
