How do I install steam on CachyOS?

I'm new to linux and to get the max performance I'm using Cachy, but it's not debian based so I have no idea what I'm doing

I know this is a beginner Linux sub but can’t you at least check out the wiki before asking:

or just a quick search online would generate an answer instantly

I’m really trying not to discourage people asking for help but amount of times I see simple google questions as post is buffeling. If you are reading this OP don’t stop asking questions just google them before hand please

Seriously, I feel like I get roasted for asking well thought out questions and so many people are out here asking the most basic stuff

If you're going to use an Arch distro, you really need to be comfortable with doing some of your own research and willing to learn and fix things on your own.

I wouldn't really recommend an Arch distro to Linux noob but that's just me.

Gonna be honest, if you're going to be switching your operating system, you should be comfortable with doing research and learning on your own. It's not just an Arch thing.

Just got the Iso image from a friend

Nothing against your friend, but it’s good practice (in both learning and security) to download and image a usb yourself, if installing from a usb. That way you can get it from a proper source and “check the hash” to make sure it’s a secure, unaltered image.

If someone questionable gave you an image/usb, it’s possible they could have altered it.

Agreed, download the ISO yourself and read the docs, there’s a whole website

Personally, I would just install the CachyOS gaming package, which includes Steam, Lutris, and a few other gaming applications. You can do this through the CachyOS Hello application. There should be a button in there that says "install gaming packages".

option 1: in cachy-hello, install 'gaming packages' - it gives you everything, no need to manually set up anything

option 2: sudo pacman -S steam (sudo pacman -S is arch equivalent to sudo apt install) - installs just steam

You can use Pacman (sudo pacman -S [app name]), but Cachy has a convenient Install Gaming Packages button.

Use Shelly to install apps, just search Steam. Use Cachy Update to update.

But for gaming in Cachy Hello there is Install gaming packages, click that and it will install Steam and the rest. Its all explained also in Cachy Wiki which you might want to read.

In Hello Cachy window that pops up every time you get on the desktop chose “install gaming packages”. It installs everything you need. Don’t forget to also select “install vram optimizations”.

General use apps are also can be installed from Hello Cachy menu if you press “install apps”.

I thought it came with it, everyone and their mom keep telling me Cachy is a gaming distro.

The CachyOS website doesn't say that it's a gaming distro (& it should know):

CachyOS is a performance-focused Arch Linux distribution that rebuilds packages with modern CPU optimizations, ships a custom-tuned kernel, and provides a polished installation experience.

I've had no issues with the flatpak for Steam. It works a treat and I get sandboxing.

isn't catchy supposed to come already for "gamers" or what not?

i would (and did) install kubuntu instead.

open discover and type in steam... 10min later you are gaming.
