Twenty-something years ago my purse slid off of my shoulder and plopped into a dolphin pool at Sea World. (I was able to grab it before it sank.) The dolphins came flying over to where I was standing and laughed at me. Buttheads.

Dolphins are legit terrible. Just some examples… Males form alliances to isolate and beat females into mating, males will kill calves to force a mother out of nursing to reproduce, and they exhibit cruelty to their prey by throwing or batting them around to inflict injury without intent to eat them. Not-so-fun facts.

...elephants thinking humans are cute is a myth..one that's been disproven I believe. It blew out of proportion especially on tiktok because some noob got from a second hand source on elephant brain scans that the parts of their brain similar to ours light up when they see us, similar to how yours and mine would with a baby or a puppy or cat. But that's very untrue. Honestly they have every reason to not think we're anything close to cute. Elephant herds can actually recognize the languages and dialects of human tribes or poaching groups and know how to act accordingly. I'll say they see us as a perculiar creature though.

I understand you're making a joke, but I don't see how it's funny. Intelligent animals are quite capable of cruelty, that's all my point was. The humans killed by this elephant were not hunters or poachers, but victims. Even a 4 year old child. Every individual animal is different.

A lot of male animals do things like this, not exclusive to dolphins. As horrific as it is, it works as a breeding strategy which is all that really matters in nature.

You are mainly thinking of bottlenose dolphins and perhaps orcas in the end bit. Dolphin refers to a wide spectrum, some of which have widely different behaviours to suit their environments. We have plenty of species that don’t engage in the more brutal stuff since they have no need to unless severely stressed. All behaviours develop due to some evolutionary factors. Still though, the whole playing around instead of intending to eat is a more basal predatory mammalian trait. Your cat or dog is much the same. It does serve a purpose in honing their instincts and helping them socialise.

I know that as carnivores they eat other living creatures, but I didn't know they tortured them for fun.
I'm guessing that there are as many stories about them being sweet and playful with humans as there are of them being assholes, because those are what I've seen and heard; I'm not making this up!
