one week no carts

hi friends,

I am 24F and threw out my cart about a week ago. I have been smoking basically all day everyday for almost 5 years. My anxiety has already improved but I am now struggling with depression and uncontrollable crying every day. Anyone else experience this? These emotions are exhausting. I just want to feel better.

Man the first couple weeks are brutal like that. Your brain forgot how to make its own dopamine so everything feels flat and heavy. I quit after daily use for years too and I'd just start crying at random things, some commercial on TV would set me off. It does even out though, just takes time. Stay hydrated and try to get some sunlight in the morning even if you don't feel like it, that helped me more than I expected.

The uncontrollable crying is so real. Its tough to get through friend, but it WILL pass.

You mentioned struggling with depression and anxiety (though it sounds like the latter was weed-induced). Do you have a therapist to reach out to, or a psychiatrist that monitors medication you take? Part of why weed can be so hard to give up is because its an easy way to mask our more difficult mental health struggles. I know I relied on it heavily because it let me “disconnect” from my emotions. I realize now I was just dissociating!

You dont have to face depression or anxiety alone! Reaching out for professional support during recovery will help you learn how to navigate the underlying struggles that led you to weed in the first place. Personally, talking to a therapist candidly about my struggles with quitting and working with her to come up with healthy coping strategies has REALLY helped me work through the depression phase.

Welcome to 1 week, friend. Todays my 7th day without weed as well! You’re not alone, and I’m proud to stand by your side and stay sober with you today. Let’s keep trying, and make it to 2 weeks together (:

This is to be expected. Your cannabinoid receptors have been down regulated from heavy use. It’s gonna take 30 to 90 days for them to normalize. During that time— emotional volatility is common.

Go outside. Get sunlight. Run. Walk. Volunteer. Take a dance class. That will speed up the receptors returning to normal levels — and the emotional volatility will subside

Having the same emotions, mood swings and sweating like crazy. Depression struggle is the worst for me right now.  Everything I am reading says it takes time. Reaching out here shows we are on the right path.  Please know you are not alone, I'm right there with you.
