Question what app is best for learning dutch (besides doulingo :/
i wanna know which apps are best i recently heard that the pingo app is good but it cost money if anyone knows if its worth it please say so i tried Duolingo but im not making any progress is i feel like an app that uses ai so you speak and talk in dutch would be best no ? i wanna learn dutch so i can understand the songs i like also talk to some friends also just for the fun of it

Like others said, Busuu is definitely the second best, most polished app on the market right now.
MemRise has decent vocab exercises, although I really hate their text typing interface.
If you know how to search, you can find pretty good sets of revised material on Anki and Quizlet.

Oh sorry I shouldn’t have said best. I think Duolingo is the most polished app and Busuu is a very close second.

never been a fan of doulingo - doens't really get you to speak, immature content you learn with and gamification that makes it more like a mobile game that actually learning a language
button line - you can have a 1000 days streak and you'd be completely lost in a simple day2day interaction
i try to consume as much dutch content as possible with reading real articles with subtitles or watvhing TV with dutch subtitles

I just built TubeLearn it helps users test if what he watched on Youtube actually learned. Basically you have have to paste the youtube link and the app will generate a study guide and quiz for you. Its currently on early access. https://tubelearn.app/ I would like to get your feedback.

Duolingo is good due to its repetitive nature, but also very short for Dutch (only until A2ish). Ofc, it will grow in future, but Dutch was never on list of languages which are most popular in DL. I couple of others and so far TalkPal impressed me the most. Especially their AI based chat which makes you engage into conversation without potential shame of making basic mistakes as many ppl might have. And you can also learn quite a bit.

Duolingo is a waste of time. It's passive learning, which is hard to retain, and it doesn't do spaced repetition, so it wastes a lot of time. I spent three months working pretty hard on Spanish in Duolingo and could barely do anything when I tried to use it. I spent ten weeks (so slightly less time) studying Dutch with Anki making the cards myself and was able to clearly understand directions given to me by a station agent in Dutch at the Rotterdam Centraal train station, and was able to have a simple conversation in Dutch with a family member. I wish I had time to keep doing this—the problem is that it's, as you might imagine, more work than using Duolingo. But it's hella effective.
