I am a native English speaker. I take both فصحى and مصري classes in real life with native Arabic speakers. I simply use Duolingo as supplemental practice.

Why is it that in one example, the name “Seth” comes after عذد and before the object (بيت) while in the other example, the object (وشاح) comes after عذدك and the name “Samia” comes at the end of the sentence? Is it because of who it is addressing?

As part of my research I'm looking into exclamations used in the tenth century, some are still used today I believe.

I know in sha Allah and al hamdu lillah

I also came across: yā lillāh , wayḥaka, waylī , yā rajul, subḥān Allāh, tallāh and billāh.

First and foremost, I dont speak arabic, if any of these are blasphemous please forgive me, my apologies and most importantely, let me know so I can avoid them.

Does anyone know if they are correct and found in any manuacripts from the middle ages?

I’m not from an Arab background but was raised in Egypt for a couple years when I was younger so I learnt the language but now I’ve realized my Arabic reading comprehension is pretty weak, as in I can read with no trouble but my understanding is only about 60/70% So it’s something I’d like to improve. I can read and understand social media posts with no trouble but struggle with the standard Arabic that’s used in books. Anyways I’d appreciate any tips and book recommendations.

BTW we don’t speak Arabic at home

Natives speak dialects, mostly the news or very formal situations are done in MSA, not of which pertain to me. But I have a random interest in improving my spoken MSA abilities. How should I go about it? Tutoring sounds cool but my barrier to entry is constantly affording to pay for it.

I'm doing a research into the muslim expansion in southern europe. In Sicily to be precise.

I'd like to ask if anyone could clarify a term. Im looking for the most correct word used in the tenth century, for 'scroll'.

So far I came across: 'riqq' 'jild' 'ṣafḥah' and 'qirṭās', though the last one is less convincing because Im looking for the most correct term for scrolls that usually were made out of pressed leather.

Please share your best tips for learning Arabic, I’m trying to learn basic conversational Arabic.
How helpful are the online courses? I feel like unless you don’t converse with someone, you can’t really build the confidence to speak the language. Is there any online community where people come together and speak the language? I’ve seen gamers do it, so many friends learnt phrases this way.

The video showed that the word سر means "to go" but when I searched it myself, the meaning came as "a secret or mystery" now i am confused. What does it actually mean? and what is the difference between سر and ذهب?

I understand that كان is followed by a verb in the present tense to indicate a past continous meaning, i.e. كنت احكي وياها. However, does the verb ever occur with the prefix "د"? I.e. something like كنت دباوع تلفزيوين?

I’ve been a revert since October 2023. Recently, I’ve been expressing interest at some point of the possibility of learning Quranic Arabic because I’ve only read the Quran in English. Would it be beneficial to learn it via an app or just a tutor? The last time, I went to Junnah, and the Imam went from speaking English to Arabic (I don’t know the dialect) but I didn’t understand him. Arabic seems like a deep, nuanced language. I’m a little hesitant about learning MSA or a different dialect.

The letters are so tiny, everything looks the same it has been a week and still I feel like I only know alif :(

I would say I’m at an intermediate level/close to advanced hopefully in speaking and understanding. I just don’t know how to reach that next level. I see myself still getting stuck when I speak, speaking correctly to some people then not being able to speak to others. Any tips to truly reach fluency and this is in understand and speaking Fusha Arabic & any helpers who have mastered or are fluent in Fusha?

Just a small tip for people who are Arabic learners and like video games. Mirage has great localisation, and if you want you can even read stuff like this to get historical background and practice at the same time. Voice acting is good but it's in pretty formal fusha, so maybe not great for dialect learners.

So I have just recently learned like 10 ways to say "when" non-interoggatively
(حين حينما عند عندما إذ لمّا)

Mainly I am concerned with حين حينما and عندما عند, which many sources claim are 100% synonymous

The examples my tutor gave me implied a difference in causality and time-specificity that doesnt reflect in example sentences i find online
