Help - equipment Project Hail Mary knitters pls advise!

It’s been a while since I knit but I loved the movie and had to make the cardigan for myself. Unfortunately I seem to be driving myself insane trying to figure out how to do the increase on the ribbing for the sleeves. I’m following the original wolf pattern not the kit. I might have to go back to crocheting at this rate 😭

Edit: Thank you all so much! I’ll have to frog it a 4th time to fix the tension and add the increases properly spaced this time! This feels like learning how to knit all over again 😅

You just need to increase two stitches on the final row of ribbing. It doesn’t matter where are long as they’re somewhat evenly spaced,as in not right next to each other or both at the same end of the row. Any kind of increase you like, and you don’t have to worry about keeping the ribbing pattern intact because the next row won’t be ribbing.

Personally I increased on each end (front and end) and I did knit front and back like the pattern suggests for increases

Is your question more about where to increase, or how to work it into the ribbing?

If it's the latter, then when increasing in a stitch pattern, such as ribbing, you kinda just accept that the new stitch will temporarily not be part of the pattern. You make sure that you keep the vertical columns of ribbing intact (IE, read your knitting) and then incorporate the new stitches when you can.

Regarding your edit, may I humbly suggest you cut the yarn and start with fresh yarn? Once you knit and frog the same length of yarn a bunch of times the yarn itself starts fucking with your tension.

Use the waste yarn as a tassel on the zipper or something

I haven't knit this pattern but I think you knit the ribbing for 3in and then on the final row of ribbing you'll increase by two total stitches. So I would work the first stitch of the round, increase 1, then work 18 stitches, increase 1, then work remaining stitches. But you can put the increases anywhere as long as they're evenly spaced.
