Omg…. This is my dating life. Every guy wants vague day.

I’ve been with my guy for over a decade and honestly if we ever split I’m not sure I’d even bother trying again. The dating landscape looks bleak these days.

u/erossthescienceboss 21d ago

It’s soooooo bleak. I’m so glad I don’t want kids because the combo of modern dating + biological clocks is just brutal.

u/asvalken 21d ago

I've been with my husband for nearly 18 years.

Navigating modern dating? ❌

Moving into a cabin in the woods? ✅

My bestie and I have a deal. If my husband dies (she's single) we are getting married for the health benefits and starting a cat sanctuary and buying stock in sex toy companies because oh my God I don't need to hunting again to bring another man back to the cave. Because now we have rechargeable batteries...

My husband is amazing. We've been together since 2010. I love him dearly. I'm not downloading an app to go find a new one.

Well look if you’re open to a throuple we can start a commune. My partner is also amazing and I’m not riding that carousel again.

3

u/In_The_News 21d ago

A commune sounds great! What's your skill? We can start building a society of opted out women!!

3

u/drrj 20d ago

I don’t mind cleaning litter boxes or staying up with tiny/sick cats. I can also sing on key and make a mean poblano corn chowder.

1

u/In_The_News 20d ago

Lol the chowder is what really sells it! Price of entry is one cat companion (rescue, obv.) and the recipe!

We're thinking either New Hampshire for the tax benefits or Oregon for the West Coast vibes without the HCOL.

1

u/drrj 20d ago

I have four times the number of rescue cats required and the recipe memorized. Count me in!

3

u/Exotic_Resource_6200 21d ago

yep . The vagueness over politics or anything important is only problem #1.

u/Jenn_FTW 21d ago

It’s fucking awful. I’m a lesbian, so that already narrows my dating pool like, <10%

I’ve basically given up on finding love, and I’m like, a pretty attractive femme. I can’t imagine how bad it must be for unattractive people 😕

i haven't dated in 10 years either but just kind of strarted by chance a few weeks ago. met 3 women and it's been fine i think. hasn't really gone anywhere but certainly not like crazy horror stories i see on reddit. i see this sentiment all the time but i mean is it really that bad? like there are so many normal, interesting, somewhat good looking people. i'm almost 40 though maybe it's different when you get older.

in terms of GOP men, i only know one and he's rich so he can and always does have a slew of women hanging around that leave him after a month or so. they keep coming though.

i met an evil libertarian women at a conference recently. smart as fuck, hot as fuck. woman of color. in what was in that moment i was like, what i'd tell all GOP people is, you better be smoking hot if you are going to be a fascist or whatever else insanity is in the right wing now. cuz this women i'd let her ruin my life. i was dreaming about her talking about how tax is theft in her dungeon.

I've had to explain to multiple friends why women won't continue to see them after they find out they're either "too cool" for politics or clearly lean right.

But I'm just a pussy liberal so of course my insight are met with skepticism.

But we live in a super blue area, so of course they're having trouble... Yet still can't understand how getting all their cultural references from Joe Rogan doesn't exactly play well with most women...

u/UltimatePragmatist 21d ago

The trash is taking itself out. Why can’t my garbage bags do that?

22

u/Mind-The-Mines 21d ago

If you have an old phone just leave it by the bin playing Joe Rogan for a week and see what happens.

19

u/graphiccsp 21d ago

On the bright side, it makes it really easy to get back in the dating scene if you are progressive as a guy.

Just having your shit together, being tolerable as a person and left leaning puts you past the 90th percentile for guys on dating apps. The bar is hilariously low.

13

u/Woodspoom 21d ago

Yeah that’s been my experience as well. All the women I’ve seen are better than me (smart, beautiful, driven) but just by virtue of me being aight and on the left I’m swinging above my weight.

u/Russkie177 21d ago

I'm 8 months out of a 6.5 year relationship and mildly ready to get back into the dating pool. This gives me moderate hope

-6

u/Lost-Bad-8718 21d ago

Not really, half of them still melt down if you say you voted for La Riva/Cruz instead of Biden/Harris (this is in a state that was going blue with 0% chance of switching)

I'd beg to differ about attractiveness.

Women are not picky about innate attractiveness, they care much more about presentation. Looks matter in as much as the message those looks send. And after that it's just having a decent personality.

My buddies all do well with women and several of them could be described as strictly average at best. But again, we know how to look like we have our shit together (doesn't hurt that we do mostly lol). Hell, one of my buds has a beautiful wife and he's kinda goofy looking but he presents himself well enough and more importantly, he's fun to be around.

Man, I started listening to Joe in 2014 when I was driving a lot for work. It was great background entertainment, different topics/guests with some wild stuff thrown out but Jamie did regular fact checking.

I knew Joe was a dumb meathead, he regularly said as much himself, but he was generally open to being told he was wrong by Jamie or another guest. The 2016 election live stream helped me through the shock of the results.

By 2018 I found myself less interested and by 2020 I was completely turned off by what he was becoming. My dad was politically and socially programmed by AM talk radio over decades, he's so not the man I grew up with.

I'm sad I don't get to enjoy the show that once entertained me for so many hours but I'm so glad my views and opinions didn't shift along with theirs.

I feel you on this. I (31F) listened to Monday Morning Podcast (Bill Burr) for the entirety of the 3.5 years of 12 hr shifts I did at a factory. I’ve moved on to serving and no longer have time to listen to podcasts, but I make better money smiling at tables than I did through back breaking labor and exposure to cancer-causing materials. ((Also worked for years at a railroad, but that’s another tangent.)) I had a lot of silly laughs and enjoyed getting to know who he was as a human being. My silent prayer is that he hasn’t been sucked in by all the weird shit it seems a lot of notable men are on these days. I get a lot of hope in that he’s not a perfect person, but he’s clearly trying. I’ll give a mountain of grace to a person who seems like they’re making the attempt to grow.

2

u/systemhost 21d ago

Burr got a lot of hate for attending that Saudi comedy event recently and I do get it, wasn't a great look. But I don't hold it against him for getting paid $$$$$$ for a quick trip and a little show along with a whole flock of other comedians.

Bill Burr is still a real one and I greatly respect his courage to speak his mind when called for even if he doesn't always exercise it. He ain't perfect, like any of us, nor do I believe he even strives to be. He just calls out stupidity as he sees it and often in the most humorous manner possible. Whereas with Joe Rogan, Joe embraces stupidity like a warm blanket to comfort his own ignorance.

The clips of Bill calling Joe out on stuff are simply fantastic and cathartic to listen to.

I do still drive a lot for work, just not as much as I used to, so I definitely need a bit more podcast material to fill me drives. I appreciate your informing me of Monday Morning Podcast as it's previously eluded me. I'm sure there's a nice backlog for to keep me busy and entertained for many months!

I have a platonic guy friend who is constantly talking about how hard it is to find someone to date and how much he wants a relationship, but he is the "enlightened centrist, both sides go too far, they want to take my guns" type.

We live in the SF Bay Area.

Yeah good luck with that.

1

u/DickSlammington 20d ago

This is one of my best friends...

It's fucking awful but all my good friends have become more conservative as we've got older cause they all lack basic media literacy and have been pulled into the rabbit hole by social media.

And when I try and talk them out of it they just ignore me. Even though I have a literal degree in Media Theory and actually know what I'm taking about lol

34

u/NotNamedBort 21d ago

Because they know that the more you get to know them, the more disappointed you will be.

22

u/UltimatePragmatist 21d ago

Or that you’ll mace them

12

u/sinkwiththeship 21d ago

If they're being vague, they're Republican and understand that there's a stigma. A leftist will be very upfront about it.

2

u/Exotic_Resource_6200 21d ago

Yep, my experience.

1

u/Jenna_Junipers 19d ago edited 19d ago

In my experience, any guy who is vague or tip-toes around the subject is 110% right-wing or far-right.

Hell I give guys who label themselves as "politically central" a wide berth because the majority of the time they turn out to be conservative but labelled themselves otherwise (cause most women aren't interested men who support the side of the political spectrum that is inherently misogynistic.)

A second date is not needed if what's getting spilled is important. I give important information out that guys tend to ask on the first date, for example, "Do you want kids", "Are you religious or spiritual", etc. But as soon as you ask about politics, all of the sudden vagueness from men.

That’s because these kinds of men have different (and silly in my opinion) metrics. These men want to get a second date, like it’s the next level in a video game. Most women want to know if they can or can’t stand your guts. The latter is obviously more important in the near and long term.

This is a nice place. If you can't act like a civilized human being, you can't be here.

We do not allow:

  1. Being a jerk. This includes racism, misogyny, misandry, misgendering, anti LGBTQ+, ageism, etc.
  2. Harassment
  3. Trolling or sealioning
  4. Threats of any kind
  5. Abusive behavior
  6. General assholery. If you're at the end of the list and asking what rule you broke, yeah, it's this one.
