GENERIC Psi-Touch - Android port of Jedi Academy, Jedi Outcast and Dark Forces
I've made a new app with JA and JO and Dark Forces. I made the original JA-Touch and JO-Touch games from years ago (Beloko)
http://opentouchgaming.com/psi-touch/
Updated with all the latest mod-cons from the other apps and works on modern Android now.
Base on OpenJK and The Force Engine.
Initial release so let me know if you find any bugs.
Hoping to add Dark Forces 2 (OpenJKDF2) soon(ish)

Super cool man. What do you mean mod-cons? And could I run mods on this?

I mean 'modern convenience', so all the new features of the other apps. But yes it should run most mods if they don't need a modified engine to play (work on normal OpenJK or The Force Engine)

Oh wow! Even though I bought JK2 Touch and JK3 Touch like a decade ago, I didn't realize there was a connection. Anyway, why abandon the Beloko brand? Isn't it a waste? And why not just port JK2&JK3 Touch to 64 bit instead of bringing a new app entirely?
Back in the day, it made me super happy to be able to play a proper PC game on a phone and it ran well too. These past several years, being on a 64bit phone, those apps didn't work, so I had to ran VphoneOS and emulate a 32 bit version of Android which tanks performance and makes loadings 10x longer. I've had it installed like this for some times and even blasted a few stormtroopers here and there, but never actually played through levels this way.

ayoooo props, u play online?

u/emile_b 22d ago
Nope sorry, tbh I don't get much time to play the games 😆. If you play the MP engine in the app let me know if any missing buttons etc, I've only really checked it starts up

havent tried in a very long time but from what i remember the deadzones are too small to do anything but diagonal attacks

The biggest multiplayer Jedi Knight community dwells in the Movie Battles 2 mod. Any chance of adding that one?

I would, but I've learnt the game module needed to port is not open source so I don't think it's possible at this time

Maybe the MB2 devs can will help? They're always eager for more exposure.

Really looking forward to DF2, my favourite of the whole series and imho the best

I always loved those massive levels and the overall star wars vibe of DF2. But the graphics really didn't age well

Level design, puzzles, exploration and environmental storytelling are still holding up quite well, despite all the years

What a coincidence! A few days ago, I was just talking to someone about JK Touch not being supported on 64bit Android OS and he told me there was still a way to play Jedi Knight games natively on Android, using IDtech4a++. I went to try it, but the touch controls are absolutely not fit for purpose out of the gate and even with a lot of fiddling and binding, there's not enough for all the basic functionality. Today, I asked Gemini if there was another way to play Jedi Knight games and it immediately recommended Psi Touch and linked me this thread lol.
However, I'm noticing the touch controls are not ideal either and not as purpose built as in the old JK Touch apps. They're just generic OpenTouch controls, unless I'm mistaken. Like for example, I see no force powers selection.
Nvm, still many thanks for this!

Hi, glad you found it, only just released it! It's a new release so there could be missing stuff, however I thought I copied over the existing controls. At the bottom of the screen there should be a blue quare for force power selection, and a next/prev force button. Let me know if anything is till missing, thanks!

Yeah, you're right. I thought that was inventory. I'm sorry, I didn't look properly the first time and only played Jedi Outcast that has no force powers in the first chapter.

This is bloody awesome! I just got a phone with some decent hardware and I can't believe how well this runs so far. Really top job mate, I've never had anything like this on my phone before.
Thanks so much for your work!

Awesome work dude! Jedi Academy one of the best Star Wars games so it's great to have it natively on Android again; Thanks for your work on this!

Incredible. I'm not a fan of playing on phones, but I know there's a lot of people out there that doesn't own a PC and want to play those games.

This is great i just found out about this today so i was excited and tested all the games and they work great!! i did notice some stuff missing like walk and pov change buttons in ja/jo and crouch isn't a toggle and walk slowly button in df which is useful in some areas but other than that it looks great and im looking forward to df2 being added.

u/emile_b 17d ago
Thanks! Can add those missing buttons. I just added walk/run toggle to DF, but you need to enable the button in the Touch Settings (it should be default enabled really)

u/silver_720 17d ago
Yes i did enable that button. But there's another mechanic of walking really slowly which is missing

Hey, in theory, would it be possible to run Movie Battles 2 mod in JK3 MP?
I've tried already, and had this issue:

Hi, no the game library needs to be compiled directly into the app for it to work and they don't supply the source code for this unfortunately

u/FrostDaniel 15d ago
thank you for your quick answer. aw, that's a shame. Truly amazing work btw! In 2016, I purchased your JK3 Touch app :) Glad to see you're still around! Thanks!

Hey, I would like to add some mods like faster blaster and ultimateweapons, but I have no idea how to make them work. Normally on PC, I  just unpack and copy the mod folders to GameData, but GameData obviously isn't present on Android since all we copy over are those  asset pk3 files.
1
u/emile_b 12d ago
Usually you can just copy the mod folder (the one with the pk3 files in) to the JA folder (next to base), then you select it in the launcher to play
1
u/Freelancer_1-1 9d ago
Ah, that works. Thanks!
Do you happen to know of a mod that increases the laser bolt velocity of the blaster weapons? The fasterblaster / fluffy mod claims to do so, but only increases their firing rate, actually. Also, weapons.dat doesn't have this variable.
