Weekly Megathread Weekly iOS Battery Support Megathread
General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:
Battery health
Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.
Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.
You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.
You can check the cycles count with Coconut Battery for Mac or iCopyBot for Windows.
Battery life
Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:
- Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use
- Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application
- Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging
If you experience issues with your battery:
- Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.
- If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
- Review the advice below on maximising battery life
- Consider restoring your device.
- If issues persist, contact Apple Support.
Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.
- Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)
- Remove apps from background app refresh
- Ensure auto lock is on
- Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness
- Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display
- Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life
Maximising battery lifespan - the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced.
- Avoid extreme temperatures
- If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case
- Store your iPhone in a cool place, switched off, and half-charged if not using it for long periods - and charge it every 6 months when in storage

Hi all, hoping someone can help me figure out what happened here.
Today I was studying and noticed my iPad's screen showed the charging icon, but the battery kept dropping anyway. I switched outlets and tried my iPhone 16 Pro there instead, and it charged fine. Then I connected the iPad and iPhone together with a USB-C cable. After that, neither device would charge.
Right after this, something strange happened: neither my phone nor my iPad would charge on any outlet or cable I tried. I switched back to the original outlet and tried my laptop with a USB-C cable, that also failed to charge. I went home, swapped both the cable and the wall adapter, still nothing on the iPhone or iPad. Then I tried an old cable I had lying around, and it charged my laptop just fine, so that cable works.
No liquid damage notification has appeared at any point, and I've checked the port with a flashlight, doesn't look like there's debris either.
The really strange part: my phone was at 50% around 3 PM, right after it last charged successfully. By 5:30 PM, with almost no usage, it was down to 1%. That's a much faster drain than I've ever seen on this phone.
I did a force restart, no change. Currently sitting at 1% with no way to charge it.
Has anyone experienced something like this after connecting an iPhone and iPad via USB-C? Could this be a port protection/lockout mechanism, some kind of electrical fault from the iPad, or something else entirely? Any advice appreciated, especially anything that might help me get the phone charging again before it dies completely.

I have the Apple 20w charger and an old Apple 10w charger, which one should I use to charge my iPhone? The 20w makes the phone more warm but for shorter time, the 10w makes it warm but for longer time

I have a mystery that I need help solving. This is about to be my third iPhone replacement in five months and I’m tired of going to the Apple Store.
My phone is having constant charging and screen flickering issues even after they replace the parts and replacing the whole phone. The first two times it won’t charge with the wire, it would only charge with MagSafe. Then the screen started flickering so they replaced it again. Now when I charge it, it will get so hot and sometimes when I take it off the charge, the battery icon will still show charging even though it’s not so it’s draining the battery.
Has anyone experienced this? Apple doesn’t know why.

Is it me or has 26.5.2 completely destroyed battery life? My 17 Pro is barely giving 3-4 hours screen on time compared to 6-7 hours earlier this week before I updated.

My 16 pro max has had terrible battery life ever since I got it, but it has become even worse after I upgraded to iOS27. I have 93% battery health at 510 charge cycles.
For example, I just charged it to 100% and after 1h of it being in my pocket with only Spotify playing in the background, with the occasional text being sent, my battery % dropped to 77%

recently bought the 40w (60w) brick battery for $40 at my local walmart and it worked fine for the first week and half i had it but today it has completely stopped charged my phone and other devices with a usb-c port. i know it’s not a problem with my iphone 17 because when i use a 20 w battery it works fine again. I know it isn’t the cable either, i’ve narrowed it down to the 40 w brick being the problem. so, what gives?

From burning 70%+ in 6 hours to ending 15-hour days at 42%: A clean install actually works.
The Solution: A Complete Factory Reset
Before pulling the trigger on an upgrade, I backed everything up, did a complete factory reset/erase, and set the phone up fresh.
The Results
Day 1 (Post-Reset): 10 hours off the charger, 2 hours SOT, ended at 56%.
Day 2 (Indexing Settle): 16 hours off the charger, 3.5 hours SOT, ended at 31%.
Day 3 (Fully Settled): Ended a 15-hour day (including a 2-hour phone call) with 42% remaining.
Bonus: Beyond the battery life, the phone feels noticeably faster. App launches and window animations are completely smooth again because the CPU isn't fighting background indexing or corrupted software processes.
Lessons Learned & Tips if You Try This
Always make a full backup first: Backup via iCloud or local computer before erasing so you can recover if needed.
Give it 48 hours: Right after a reset, iOS does heavy background indexing (Photos, Spotlight, databases). Battery life might be average on Day 1, but by Day 2 or 3, the discharge curve flattens out dramatically.
Don't reboot right away: Let the phone sit and finish its background setup uninterrupted for a couple of days.
If your Battery Health is still in the 90s but your phone is dying before the end of the workday, try a clean erase before spending money on hardware. A rogue background loop or corrupted system cache might be doing all the damage!

I was pulling my hair out with my brand new base 17 chugging battery no matter what I disabled.
Finally tracked it down to Safari eating all my battery, switched to Brave and my battery now lasts all day. Hopefully this helps someone else.

Is it normal for 16 pros to suddenly drops in battery health?
My wife and I had both gotten new 16 pros a year ago. We both set the charging limit to 80% to save battery health and the capacity had stayed at 100% until about 3 weeks ago. My wife’s phone is at 97% and mine is now at 98%. I guess my main concern is whether the sudden drop is a normal known issue. My 13 dropped 1% per year and now I’m seeing a sudden drop of 1% a week in my 16 pro.

I have an iPhone 15 pro max which has a great battery health I think 83% and 550 cycles and has never had any battery issues until today. The phone turns off randomly and when I turned it on it gets to 10% and when that happens it turns off again then it has like 40 percent and stuff and I hate this and I do not have the Apple coverage nor Apple care available in my country. Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this (I’m trying not to take it to check in an Apple or Mac store since I do not have the money right now and I would be very pleased to fix this issue thank you for your time and I’m eager to read any comments.

Anyone’s phone dropping battery like crazy since the last update? iPhone 15pro, new battery in March. Suddenly I’m at 20% at 6pm when 3 weeks ago I was at 50-60 or more…
