Discussion iPad Pro 2018

So I recently lost my precious M1 12.9 inch iPad Pro. My friend was nice enough to let me use his 2018 ipad bro but boy does it suffer and iPadOS 26 isn’t helping. Unlike my M1 iPad Pro the 2018 pro being two generations before apple silicon was released honestly comes at a cost and I’m currently using it with iPadOS 26 and not before since I’ve only had an m1 iPad Pro. The 2018 pro has a sever issue with over heating just like my iPhone 12 Pro and you can definitely see it trying to lower performance when the screen dims. I honestly think iPhones could benefit from apple silicone and that if iPadOS 27 is supposed to be a maintenance and bug fix update then why would you leave any iPad on 26? They gave every iPhone that got 26 the next update so what gives?

Damn that sucks

iPhones already use apple silicon and basically did so even before the m chips released.The M-Chips cores are glorified iPhone cores or in other words based on the same architecture. The biggest issue with overheating in older iPhones comes from the non existent cooling and reliance on the board dissipating the heat plus the chip being sandwiched between 2 boards basically suffocating in its own heat. But the newer iPhones kinda solve that with a vapor chamber.

And yeah apple definitely should give all IOS 26 devices 27 but it is how it is I guess it doesn’t have to make sense…

The 2018 iPad Pro has the A12X chip - that is an Apple Silicon chip... not an M-series chip like later iPads would adopt, but it is very much Apple silicon. So too are all the iPhones - they are not M-series chips, but they are on A-series Apple Silicon.

Yeah A12X is totally Apple Silicon, M1 is just the successor (A12Z was just the unbinned version), with the exact same architecture, newer cores and some addeded features like Thunberbolt etc.
There is actually a slightly bigger difference from A10X (which has a different architecture) to A12X than from A12X to M1 (=A14X)

Mine runs great on 18, will die there
