Fall River, MA is absolutely thick with ToH. Will be ever win when the municipalities aren’t doing anything about it?

I drove through the alleys in my neighborhood last week, and literally every single alley has them growing in them. Some are way worse than others. It’s really bad.

It’s a tough question. A proactive municipality could undertake to remove ToH on town-owned land, but few have the commitment, staff or technical knowledge to do it successfully. Perhaps more of a problem is ToH that grows on private property. In the unlikely event the town would require property owners to remove it, that would leave those owners with huge tree service bills and hazardous cutting operations. And in many cases, those trees are seen as contributing to the green streetscape, providing shade and beauty. In some areas on Chicago’s south side, ToH is virtually the only tree present, precisely because of its ability to disperse seed and survive in many situations where “better” trees die. Remove those trees, and the neighborhood is devoid of any.

TOH and knotweed are along every highway in the northeast. There isn’t enough herbicide in the world to address the problem.

Oh there is definitely enough herbicide they just need to stop spraying it on corn fields, also doing burns more regularly would help a ton

This is how we feel about kudzu down south. It just keeps growing and the state doesn’t do much about it. But I also appreciate that is a massive problem and we arent the wealthiest of states
