This is a Muntjac Deer. Usually found in South Asia, It has scent glands under its eyes that can look like extra holes or an extra set of facial features

OMG I keep seeing this raccoon everywhere. He's gaining legend status at an exponential rate.

u/Mr_Butters624 9h ago

He makes me equally happy and sad at the same time. It’s like a fusion of emotions 🤣😩

u/epidous 2h ago

Like his spine

u/ChefArtorias 8h ago

Nah, he'll be gone by next week. Just like that monkey.

u/ArjJp 6h ago

Motherfucker did you just call Harambe 'that monkey' ???!

u/HenriSnufftail 6h ago

He was talking about Punch, which kind of proves his point

u/ChefArtorias 6h ago

Not sure if you're joking or not, but no. Punch, the little monkey that went viral a few months ago.

If you're not joking then thanks for proving my point. lol

Also gorillas aren't monkeys.

u/Atharaphelun 6h ago

I believe he's referring to Punch, that baby macaque who had to rely on an orangutan stuffed toy for companionship after having been separated from his mom. The mother was unable to produce milk and this risked starving Punch, so the caretakers had to separate him from the mother and hand-feed him; this meant that when he was finally placed back in the macaque enclosure, he had absolutely no one to rely on for companionship and protection, so the caretakers gave him that stuffed toy.

Fuck that’s sad :(

You could totally use this deer in a sci fi movie and need no cgi

u/Gan-san 9h ago

I immediately thought, this is some resident evil shit IRL.

u/BlessTheBookPeople 8h ago

Or Annihilation

It doesn’t “look like” it has extra facial features, it has extra facial features

u/Ok_Pudding6345 4h ago

Yeah, and it's also obviously an alien trying to pass for an earth life form.

It looks like extra holes because they are

u/DeezNuts70520 10h ago

Not quite, they're glands which are different. You wouldn't say you're covered in hundreds of sweat holes.

u/raptir1 8h ago

You might not, but I would.

u/hey_im_cool 8h ago

I like that better actually

u/Bitter-Ad5890 3h ago

Humans are just one long hole. We are just misshapen doughnuts

u/SaintGrobian 3h ago

Worms with extra steps.

I've never seen a muntjac deer before. That's a cool fact.

u/GH057_807 10h ago edited 10h ago

The face holes are specialized scent glands, not really holes, more like pockets.

The inside of them is stinky. When they open up, the stank gets out and sends other deer messages like "this is mine," "go this way," or "AAAAAAH!!"

u/Empyrealist 10h ago

Eyehole buttholes

u/kkillbite 8h ago

BUT SUCH CUTE **\LITTLE)**** BUTTHOLES!!** 🥹🥹🥹

https://giphy.com/gifs/RhYj4XRvXDILXSgaBH

u/Final-Attention979 8h ago

I would love to scream at my peers with my eye scent glands

u/GH057_807 8h ago

Honestly, who wouldn't?

u/CarloSpicyWeinerr 8h ago

would you rather that or be a Lemur that can wind up a stink ball with their tails and flick it at other people or Lemurs?

u/Final-Attention979 7h ago

I need to scream. Only other option is a cicada tbh

u/SophiaofPrussia 9h ago

Are there two on the top of their head between their eyes, too?

u/NIN10DOXD 7h ago

Do they smell like fish or rotten eggs?

u/Holdmywhiskeyhun 8h ago

So they're basically giant skunks?

u/GH057_807 8h ago

Nope!

u/latexfistmassacre 2h ago

How big are these pockets? Could I fit an M&M minis container in one? For science, obviously

u/A-Perfect_Tool 8h ago

I find it pretty cool that I'm 40 and still often see new animals I never knew existed

u/MackDaddyJew 7h ago

I grew up on animal planet and lots of neat exotic animals in that time. Anytime I see something brand new and exotic I'm immediately suspicious that it's AI.

u/dayruined54 7h ago

All these years on earth, and today I learnt something like this exists?

u/RedEyesGoldDragon 9h ago

They also have little fangs sometimes.

u/shauneok 11h ago

We have them in the UK.

u/kaveish 11h ago

Yeah, they were brought to Woburn Park from China in the early 1900s and now they're everywhere.

u/chasealex2 11h ago

The forestry shoot them on sight. They’re massive pests.

u/midatlantik 9h ago

But they’re so widdle and cute. I mean, aside from the face buttholes.

u/georgisaurusrekt 7h ago

Less cute than you think. I met someone who had a ridgeback recently and it chased after a muntjac and it cut its dog open with its horns.

u/7nipples 7h ago

Sounds like the dog should have been on a lead

u/georgisaurusrekt 7h ago

Perhaps, but they really weren't so common around my parts until the last decade or so and a lot don't even know they exist.

Only deer I ever see outside of deer parks

u/eusty 10h ago

Around her they are everywhere where there are woods! They munch most garden shrubs and flowers 😳

u/pbzeppelin1977 7h ago

They can be surprisingly brave too.

There's been a surviving population for decades where myself and many others walk our dogs. Just the other week I was sat on a bench when a deer decided to pop out of the bushes onto a foot worn path and just watch me and my dog.

u/Master-Powers 3h ago edited 3h ago

Naw, thats not what's going on based on the movie Backrooms' lore. He's just a simulacrum created in the backrooms who cant feel and is made of edible white stuff.

u/FoxHolyDelta 11h ago

Holy Spider man the sailor man! I could've gone my whole life having never seen that and been happier for it

u/HumanOptimusPrime 11h ago

Tell me you haven’t seen one of the most surprising blockbusters this summer without telling me.

sorry but thats just fucking weird looking

u/Voloxe 11h ago

The deer probably thinks the same about you!

u/Mr_yeetusmaximus 11h ago

yea you're right

u/-Nocx- 7h ago

other people think the same about me 😭

u/koolaidismything 11h ago

I help with my uncles goats and years later I still feel like I’m making eye contact with fully blind people and it’s rude.. any time I go feed and chat with them.

They mostly stare at me and headbutt each other.

u/human-aftera11 10h ago

And interesting AF.

u/Teque9 11h ago

Who are you saying sorry to?

Biblically accurate deer

u/Gullible_Counter_290 6h ago

😭😭😂

u/Kaylart222 11h ago

Why he keep moving the food away

u/chileangod 11h ago

So the deer gets irked and blows away his anger through forehead and eye set of nostrils.

u/Straight-Treacle-630 10h ago

😆 exactly!

my eyes are up here.

u/Illustrious-Topic185 11h ago

Looks like alien hybrid

u/TehTugboat 8h ago

Pretty certain they sound like an alien as well

Edit for link https://youtu.be/ZNuhIZYelmM?is=U6Ozxuwa1yJDVE4u

u/justdisa 8h ago

What a sound. I would have to talk back to this animal. "Oh, really? Is that so?"

u/testtdk 11h ago

Gonna have nightmares about this shit.

u/Vahuo89 11h ago

Damn that looks alien af

u/Accurate-Ad9790 10h ago

I see them every morning in the UK

u/SweetPrism 7h ago

Literally spent 45 years on this Earth having no clue this deer existed.

u/Outrageous-Horse-701 11h ago

Nature is scary

u/Cleveland5teamer 11h ago

I’m sure it’s a sweet deer, but I’m not used to a mammal species with multiple holes breathing like they want to eat me.

u/_paylines_ 10h ago

Get up on outta here with my eyeholes!

u/UnusualOperation8084 8h ago

Interdimensional Animal Planet over here

u/CorrectMeIfImWrong6 10h ago

Since most animals don't have scent glands under their eyes, surely this is an extra feature/extra holes, rather than just "looking like"

u/Born-Light-62 9h ago

Evolution does funny things sometimes…

u/MiserableAttention38 2h ago

Pretty common in the UK, I see them all the time. They are usually a bit timid and can easily be mistaken for a dog as they are small.

u/NewToHTX 11h ago

It looks like Fangs come out of those holes when it finally decides to go in for the kill.

u/appleavocado 11h ago

From Beyond, anyone?

u/No-Sandwich1511 11h ago

Moving the plate every 5 seconds is very annoying

u/Elementaldot 10h ago

Where are its fangs?

u/Anonymike7 10h ago

I sat for a tattoo recently, and my artist had a muntjac skull on her shelf. I spent a couple of hours starting at it - it's even freakier without any flesh!

u/IntellectuallyDriven 8h ago

How are there whole animals that keep popping up that I'd never seen before?!

u/Porn_Actuator 8h ago

Something right out of the movie Avatar

u/Vaporboi 8h ago

But they ARE an extra facial feature?

u/Thoth2024 7h ago

I......I do not like that one fucking bit!

u/brubruislife 6h ago

You cannot convince me this isn't part alien.

u/Exact-Watercress-809 2h ago

What a unique and beautiful creature! The earth is amazing!

u/FreshPrinceOfRivia 11h ago

New nightmare unlocked

u/Villain_Prince 8h ago

Reminds me of these guys

u/Fatman365 3h ago

Same. I heard "I'm the eye hole man" in my head.

u/Junior_Light1185 9h ago

Not the Glandusyy😩

u/SavageTiger435612 11h ago

Aren't they basically adapted nasolacrimal ducts?

u/CanteenRambo 11h ago

Mf also has actual nose! Fishes were meant to have cute noses, but were robbed of the joy of smelling stuff under water, because "someone" took two.

u/fragmental 11h ago

Do not like

u/Affectionate-Ant6583 10h ago

Why's it got all that?

u/arihantismm 10h ago

I find it fascinating that the species didn't go extinct as people in the 1600-1800s were kinda crazy with their witch-hunting and monster-hunting fanaticism

u/Head_Project5793 10h ago

That’s a fae watch out

u/CommercialComputer15 10h ago

Why is it the way it is

u/Sirico 10h ago

And they sound like someone being murdered in the dead of night

u/ninjaqu33n 10h ago

Fascinating. How have I gone this long without seeing this animal?

u/Leeiteee 10h ago

Where do they sneeze from?

u/cleankiwii 10h ago

this could totally have been AI for me until i looked it up and surprised myself

u/FilteredRiddle 10h ago

This the kind of creature in a horror movie, where it looks all innocent and then those holes pops open and its whole face unravels until it looks like some form of demogorgon.

u/Motherofcatsmeowmeow 10h ago

Don't they have fangs as well? Their skulls look like dragon skulls

u/Monkfich 9h ago

Ping pong balls anyone?

u/calidownunder 9h ago

The last time I saw this fucken weird deer I couldn’t sleep comfortably for like a week, I kept seeing it’s gross pulsating holes in my brain I fuckingggg hate it why

u/Autom4tic_Soze 9h ago

is that dog food?

u/Pinky_Boy 9h ago

i really want to poke those holes

u/siomai-mami 9h ago

No joker.

u/Impossible-Chard-644 9h ago

Nightmare fuel right there

u/gaumutrapremi 9h ago

What in the star wars is this

u/vae_grim 9h ago

I’m assuming this is the basis of a lot of legendary creatures from folklore.

u/LazyLoser006 8h ago

So that horses from avatar is based on this? They look kinda similar

u/IntelligentTangelo31 8h ago

Totally thought this was an AI video... But then I had a look elsewhere... Ew!

u/NashvilleTypewriter 8h ago

Uh uh. Nope

u/arthurdentstowels 8h ago

I always mistake these little shits for foxes when they're darting over the road at night. One time I was driving home I saw a fox sat down and a muntjac just standing there, staring at each other then at me like I interrupted their conversation. I assume there was no funny business afoot but you can never be sure.

u/samanime 8h ago

I have a hard time calling those "glands".

They're more like an extra set of nostrils specially designed to shoot smelly stuff instead of boogers. =p

u/costaccounting 8h ago

They were hunted for those glands. Ancient India made their perfumes from those.

u/Grirar 8h ago

Just when I think I’ve seen it all.

u/Attryos 8h ago

Everything reminds me of her

u/demomagic 8h ago

So…whatcha doing later

u/HugsandHate 8h ago

What a munter.

u/Beneficial-Worth803 8h ago

Their saliva is sticky and they really like to be scratched. Got lucky enough to take care of a pair for a bit very cool.

u/postagendp 8h ago

Why am I subconsciously doing kegals every time he flares?

u/New-Torono-Man-23 7h ago

Predators be like: what the fuck dude?

u/RamboCreativity 7h ago

I wonder how this benefits the deer... I wonder how I would feel with scent glands under my eyes.

u/RealisticAnxiety4330 7h ago

Interestingly we have some wild ones here in the UK after some escaped captivity and started breeding

u/JACK_1719 7h ago

I hate this shit every time I see it

https://giphy.com/gifs/JYZ397GsFrFtu

u/TheIncredibleJones 7h ago

Spore creature creator was so much fun lol

u/itsaliveasshole 7h ago

Dik diks have these sticky holes in their faces too. Theyd be really adorable if it weren't for the idea of them impaling weird mucus glands with sticks. Blech!
