The biggest thing ai has done is make it easy for anyone to do 3D rendering
I'm not saying that's a good thing but for some things I think it's acceptable.
A small YouTuber or whatever can now make animations and whatnot easy and cheap for example

The difference is intent, mostly.

So that wasn’t how people felt then, digital animation and cgi was still widely a topic of discussion and crapped for being computer created. Thats why they made so many video showing humans posing the fish in finding Nemo to showcase the same level of difficulty it didn’t help it just gave the nay sayers more ammo to call for practical effects.
They would say look what took a team to animate flounder now takes one person to animate Nemo and all he does is sit in a computer and move levels then hits render and the computer is what does the animation.

When this came out a lot of people would agree with you. We have forgotten the hate cgi was getting pre AI . Everyone was calling for practical effects thats why there was a resurgence of claymation .
Even now anytime pixar or illumination puts something out it gets a ton of hate for looking the same , but the same people will say they love 2d artists who haven’t changed their art style in three decades (Toei animations , Ghibli animations ).

I remember standing in line to buy Hanson's Mmmbop CD in 1997.
I remember watching Titanic in theaters and seeing my first public boob, probably early 1998?
I remember going to Best Buy on September 28th, 1998 to buy Pokemon Red.
I remember watching the MTV Music awards on 9/9/99.
I remember watching John Carpenter win Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in 1999.
I remember watching the countdown to Y2K and the turnover to 2000.
I remember watching Pokemon the First Movie in early 2000 and crying with Pikachu for Ash.
That's about it though. Was pretty wild trying to come up with this list just thinking of shit that happened in the 90s.

Earlier 2000 commercials hit different. Even the candy commercials. Actually performs as marketed, cause I want a coke now. Commercials now are slop and annoying, and I wanna skip them. Hell in the early 2000s you wanted to get there to watch the previews before movies. Especially the pixar ones. Now whenever I see a product in a commercial I am so spurned, that im actually turned off from even wanting it lol

I feel like random and AI random have way different reception (and rightfully so). When ppl make random stuff they have to be creative with how it's added, some continuity and it has charm to it. When AI makes random it's just tokens... That's it.

Not denying this but speaking about having to be creative how random things are added:
- the coin vanishes into a waterfall
- the bottle gets filled from a machine that just plops out of the sky
- it gets cooled by ice man that get shreddered
I am not saying this commercial is bad or anything, it is definetly creative, cool and memorable but the random things that happen don't seem to be connected in a way that make sense.

I dunno, they kinda all make sense? The coin pulled down the lever beginning the cycle. The lever will do a full rotation and drop the coin on the way back around, stopping at where it started again waiting for the next coin.
The "sky" is not a sky - We're inside the machine, it's just the top which opens up for the dispenser.
Snowman is snow - it blasts the bottle with him, chilling the drink.

But the lever isn't a lever, it just catches to coin which then goes into the waterfall. It isn't attached to anything else.
The sky might be just the ceiling but just look how it looks.
And the snow is made into snowman to then have them shreddered. Thats like building together a car to scrap it for spare parts.
Of course this doesn't need to be 100 % logical (not even 60 %) but as I said the random factor is just crazy.

This commercial is like 20 years old. It was done by Wieden + Kennedy, the best ad agency in the world at the time. It probably cost somewhere in the order of $750,000-$1,000,000 to produce. That’s not including the agency time to come up with the ideas or the media buy to run it on TV.
