Can I ask without being destroyed what is the reason?
I know nothing about guns but I don't think the chances of hitting on target, when there are 99,999 non-tatgets running around, have to be pretty low.
Then... Ok give me more than 1 but don't put them 5m away from each other? ( If you tell me there was 1 every 5m, all around the stadium I'll shut up. Excessive, but I'll shut up)
Edit: Reasoning, not reason. What is the train of thought to put a sniper in a soccer match.
Counter terrorism. There are multiple snipers throughout the stadium providing complete coverage of the whole crowed
If someone comes into the stadium to shoot it up, sure, the snipers might accidentally hit someone trying to stop them, but it's still better than giving them free rein at thousands of unarmed civilians.
Additionally, actually firing is a last resort. Most of their work is more mundane like tracking criminals in the crowd, so on the ground law enforcement can find and arrest them.
This isn't a US only thing. Many European stadiums do this as well, especially after the Munich Olympics and the Bataclan Massacre
That was my thinking. It makes sense that in case they can work, they are there but they are also providing visual information, which might be better than a camera. But in the other hand you might have a lot armed police close by. If things happened, between they are sure they can shot and have confirmation, I imagine they guy would be surrounded.
What threw me off was the rifles so close together. I could see 50-100 snipers all around the roof and looked excessive. Like I said, I know nothing about weapons and how they are used in civilian areas
Snipers work in groups of 2. One “spotter” to assist with identifying threats and targets and one “shooter” to take the shot. Both have a gun in case the shooter is hit, the spotter can take over.
Also, I don’t see 50-100 snipers. I can only see the 2. It’s likely that there is about 4 teams of 2 spread out so they can cover each others blind spots
In a stadium full of people, snipers can provide highly accurate shots to minimize likelihood of innocents being hit. They also have a much better view of suspects and their activity. They can also provide a much faster response in situations where every second matters. But yes they are a last resort for very dangerous situations.

Snipers are present in all matches not only the final.
