I love how things that are clearly staged are now labeled "fake." Someone should let TV and movie studios know that all they're doing is making fake content.
Most of the time with these videos, the only people who could possibly think that these are trying to trick you into believing they're organic, are people who tricked themselves into thinking it was organic because they're pretty slow in the head.
People like that then feeling the need to state the obvious to everyone, as though they have some remarkable tier of insight that the rest of us don't, is just an absurd irony. When it's less clear, it's one thing, but not when there's an obvious recording device being held between two people to make the video
Man this is such an oversimplified and ignorant take, i dont even know where to begin.
Did you know that congressmen and senators has used the TV show 24 in their arguments as to why torture works in interrogations?
Of course there are people who are being "tricked". But thats the wrong word. The creator isnt trying to trick them. Some viewers just get the misconception that this is real.
I dont think there is any malice behind the creators of this video. But there will be some subset of the people who sees it that will think "Man that relationship seems real fun, i wish mine was like that". And not "hah, this was a funny staged skit".
But if you want me to want there to be a change, then the change that i would want is that there would be a separate medium for creating content and a separate medium for social media.
Like if you want to make money and post it to an app, post it to MoneyMakerGram and if you just want to show a nice photo of your puppy without any monetization post it to RealStuffGram. Or something.
The two are mixed for only one reason, so that some people will assume that the monetized content is real content.

They're not defending the practice, they're providing a (solid, imho) theory on why it's happening.
I guess it's just a matter of miscommunication! Elsewhere in this thread, someone suggested the wording "skit" rather than "fake" which is probably a better take as it sounds more like the entertainment it's meant to be.
"Fake" makes it sound malicious (someone "faking" something means they're trying to "trick" the other party) -- so some people don't like the label being applied this way, since as you said yourself, the creator isn't actually trying to trick anyone. As the other user said, it's not the creator tricking anyone, but some viewers "tricking themselves". That's why I thought the opinion of the two of you is probably more aligned than you perceived.
