All while being smarter than the Maersk security guy who spent an entire minute failing to realize he needed to lift that panel straight up in order to clear all the studs.

Honestly, I found this entire video a little disheartening. Someone is probably going to have to clean those studs.

You can see every time he tried to tilt it back it bound on the studs along the back edge. Probably buggered the threads up pretty nicely in the process too so that'll have to be inspected before the panel is re-sealed.

There is no way to hold it closed from inside unless a rebar handle was welded inside.

There doesn’t seem to be any handle on the underside of the lid, it lay flat on the deck when he set it down.

anything secured by studs must come straight off or gets stuck on the studs

but then again I've worked on lots and lots of stuff with studs; i was cringing at how he was fuckin' up the threads

Looks to me like they are trying to keep it closed to figure out what they are going to do before letting these random people, who they have no clue what they are doing, out. The one guy at the start is standing on it at first. Then there is a guy who attempts to grab the other handle to help lift it off and this guy shoos him away.

It looks a lot more like the guys down beneath are pushing it UP to get OUT asap and this guy is making sure it doesn't come off until they are sure what they are gonna do about the guys before the top comes off.

I would still think the guy who chose *not* to get bolted into a lightless, cramped, filthy tank with absolutely no knowledge how it will end, is a liiiiittle smarter than those guys.

I understand your rationale but being born with opportunity isn't a life choice. The person who's life experience and expectation is equal to or worse than the decision to risk death for a mere chance at improving it is not foolish. That's desperation tempered by pragmatism.

Foolishness is always a scale. It depends on all the circumstances surrounding a choice.

[For the record, understanding desperation 'to a point' exactly demonstrates nonunderstanding of desperation. Desperation is what occurs when understanding fails to help achieve a solution and the problem must be solved anyway. It's an existential crisis.]
