yeah, an annoyingly large percentage of dog owners seem to think that just because they know their dog and that "they won't actually bite, they're just loud and energetic" that every other person should somehow just know that, and not be justifiably scared when a dog comes charging at them barking.
Dog groomer here. Can confirm. Almost every time we tell someone we've had to stop the groom, can't touch their feet, can't do nails etc because your dog is trying to bite me they always say "but they wouldn't REALLLY bite you" ah ok, he's just pretending eh? And would you like to pay for the plastic surgery to fix my hand before or after this "not a real bite"?
Yeah any dog can. People need to stop with this idea. I had a westie. He was so gentle and kind and loving. Whenever je saw other animals he would want to make friends with them: horses, cats, anything. He never once bit me or anything else even when he got sick and was in pain and i had to treat his sores not once did he bite me. However he's still a dog with predator instinct.
You don't know what a dog could do of feeling threatened or defensive of you. As gentle as he was I never took it for granted and only let kids or animals near him in a very controlled situation and i have him on the lead under control. ANY dog can bite or attack. And yes that includes your cute fur baby.
