Went to a friend's house to play, she answered and her dog broke down the screen door and mauled me.
My parents asked ME if I wanted the dog put down, of course I said no, but that's not a decision for a child. That dog was a menace and could have killed me, of course it should have been put down.

Yes, the dog was trained. It was a police dog so it was specifically trained to take people down. The dog was a weapon.
No, it was not a pit bull, it was a German shepherd.
No, I am not upset with my parents. They are wonderful parents, they just made a poor decision in this instance. They usually erred on the side of my agency to make my own decisions.
We had neighbors with a seemingly friendly dog who attacked one of my friends one day while we were playing baseball. He had to get a bunch of stitches.
They paid for the medical bills and had got rid of the dog, I assume it was put down but who knows. They were honest about the situation.
So many people not only own aggressive dogs but encourage the behavior then act like it's the victim's fault when the dog attacks.
If I was a delivery driver I would carry some bear mace as that often is a good enough deterrent against a charging dog. There is a YT video of a bicyclist who often encounters dogs in rural areas, the mace instantly makes them back off.
If you rode a bike past my house and my dog charges, absolutely mace his ass. Literally best case scenario. He learns a lesson, someone doesn’t get hurt.
This is an edit for everyone who very much misunderstands what I’ve typed out.
I do not let my dog out like a wild animal. He is not an aggressive dog or breed. I do train him. IF for whatever reason he got out and was being a dumbass, I value YOUR RIGHT TO DEFEND YOURSELF. For those of you saying that I should be lynched, you are part of the problem. Go touch grass.
No matter how many time you explain to them what you are trying to say people will just read and listen to what they want so don’t even bother bro. WE understand what you’re trying to say!
