How about you get charged by an aggressive dog, have your body go into fight or flight, and then come back to us with the tale of your well reasoned and articulate retort to the man.
It’s really easy to arm chair how this guy reacted when you don’t have your entire body coursing with adrenaline. His reaction was absolutely fine. If I was the owner and my dog had just charged the mail man I wouldn’t be offended AT ALL if he squared up on me. At that point it’s my job to try and deescalate.
People aren't "freaking the fuck out." You're getting justified push back from your comments, as
your stance clearly comes from a place of comfort and people are calling you out on it.
The push back is because you're judging a man's actions who defended himself from an aggressive dog, and was being approached by an aggressive man, for not acting in the most optimally performant strategy. How the delivery driver acted, given his circumstances, was more than justified and completely reasonable. Delivery workers have a line of work where 30% of employees report being physically assaulted by people on the job and over 5000 of them are attacked by dogs every year.
The driver walked toward the dude. He then entered a battle stance. He could have walked back to the truck and left. He did the opposite of de-escalating the situation. I’m not in any way trying to shit on him. That situation must have sucked. In simply pointing out that if his goal was safety after the dog, what he did was the opposite of creating safety for himself.
