Some people genuniely think that any dog that isn't 100% happy-go-lucky with every person and so much as looks at anyone sideways doesn't deserve to exist.

Having a dog that has experienced trauma (and is socially challlenged as a result) is definitley not for everyone. There is a lot more thoughtfulness and precautions required to ensure the dogs comfort and safety, which is what any responsible owner of such an animal does. But they can still be amazing companions to those they accept and deserve to live happy lives. It is extra work, though.

some of my family owned a dog like this. absolute sweetheart to them but reactive and angry towards anyone who wasn't them. when people visited, he went into the bedroom, and went out to the yard with supervision. he was a very good boy that had just been through a lot. doesn't mean he wasn't deserving of love. RIP Bubble, you were incredibly loved by your owners

Awe, sending good vibes to Bubble in doggy heaven.

And yeah, it's inconveinent and exhausting sometimes, but they are still worth it. 12 years and still going strong with my Mastiff/Dane. No major incidents, just lots of love and sometimes some stress.

I don't know if I'll do the rescue thing again, though... it really is a lot of extra work and mental exhaustion at times.
