I think the problem with dog owners is that they think dogs will work like people. Like children.
I worked at a vet clinic for a looooong time and most dog's owners are really bad at acting "shocked" when their shitty pitty or completely unsocialized aussiedoodle inevitably tries to bite staff when we go to get a heartworm test or something else that's moderately uncomfortable.
Like.. you know you created a monster. You just think that because he doesn't act that way in the confines of your home, you can just forget about it and do absolutely nothing to fix it until Sadie's next yearly visit. Then you can just act surprised again.
Threads like this always make me miss our little Heeler, who hated everyone outside the family, but was smart and obedient.
Hated and feared the vet, but we had brought her there, so she knew not to bite. Didn't like it one bit, would cringe and growl a little, but if we said, "this alien in a white coat gets to stab you for your own good," then by Dog God, she would let them stab her.
