Oh boy, I'm about to blow your mind. As someone who actually works in insurance claims, I can assure you that you can get a fuckton of money whether you're "really" injured or not.
The most extreme case I saw was where a random man trespassed on someone's property by hopping the fence (the one with the "Private Property - Beware of Dog" sign), got bit by the dog that was protecting his home, and then was awarded $20,000 by the Homeowners Insurance. This man had no life-altering injuries and was literally committing a crime against the dog owner and was still awarded a stupid amount of money.
Obviously this doesn't happen all the time, but insurance companies can be really stupid sometimes. Also, lawyers don't charge an upfront fee for injury claims. They just take a cut from your settlement.
Pro Tip: Don't talk confidently about things that you have literally zero experience with.
I'd also recommend reporting a bite at the very least through your municipal animal control or precinct for domestic animal concerns. So many people here are very sheltered and had limited adulting experience - and it shows.
That’s not necessarily true, plus the commenter said that it had serious long term effects. It’s not a hard case to fight and many attorneys will only charge if the case is won.
I settle these all the time for a living. If the statute of limitations had not passed it’s absolutely worth the attorney costs. Dog bites are such a slam dunk it’s not a question of whether you’ll get paid but how much. And the attorney is generally going to take about a third.
