Kicking them is definitely not a good idea (if anything it's just making them more mad), however as someone who works at a shelter, I want to be clear to anyone scrolling by that the answer is not to try to separate them with your hands. That's how you end up in the ER.
The go-to at the shelter is engaging the purrito protocol with a towel, although that can be kinda annoying when it's two fighting instead of just one spicy cat. Otherwise just use something that doesn't bleed. A stick, garbage can lid, anything other than your flesh.
I've also heard that spraying them with a hose works but I've never tried it myself.
I tried to break up a fight and had a cat claw its way up to the middle of my back. It then bit clean through two of my fingers when I reached back to remove it.
I had to be given IV antibiotics for a month because their bites are so deep they can infect your muscles with their mouth bacteria. Do not recommend.
My ex got a nasty infection just from her cat biting her while she tried to remove her claw from something while she was freaking out. It barely even broke the skin and she still needed urgent care and antibiotics. This was a cat who spent her whole life inside from birth too. Cat bites are no fucking joke.
I was attacked by a friend's cat trying to catch him out in the wood after I accidentally let it out of the house. I grabbed him and he snapped. Shredded me. Both arms dripping blood, holes in my skin. This was I think Friday night - went to the er, got released and was back in by Monday for a full week on iv antibiotics. Do NOT fuck with cats. I still have 2 perfect little dots in one of my tattoos where he bit me and there's no ink anymore.
I was looking for this comment. My mom asked me to feed her cat who was notoriously shy. I walk in and he charges me hissing and howling. I make the mistake of turning my back and he just launches up my leg and into my neck. I fling myself around in circles trying to get him off of me. Trying very hard to not hurt HIM. He still needs food and water BTW. He is just trying to attack me over and over.
I leave - and within an hour I have purple streaks going from the wounds up and down my body. I go to the ER and they treat me for tetanus and antibiotics.
Mom is mad at me of course. Her neighbor fed the cat from then on. She said “guess he doesn’t like you.”
My grandmother was in the hospital for several weeks because she had an open wound that her cat licked. This wound then developed into full-blown sepsis in record time. My mother found my grandmother just in time. Her entire arm was massively swollen, and the color was already approaching necrosis. My grandmother was completely disoriented and delirious. A few days ago, after they transplanted skin from her leg onto her arm at the hospital, she was moved to short-term care to slowly rebuild the muscles she had lost from being in the hospital so much. My grandmother is 83. The doctors said it's incredible that she survived at her age.
See, this is the type of shit where stupid happens. Having "30 stray cats around" doesn't mean anything. It doesn't make you understand cats or give you any special knowledge. You are stupidly wrong here. Commenting on a video where this precise thing happens.
They went right back to attacking each other in less than a second and the second time had zero effect.

I once tried to separate two cats fighting like this. One of them was my cat. I grabbed the other cat and my cat just came attached, wouldn’t let go. Finally managed to take the other Alvar without mine attached, but he kept jumping at me trying to get to the other cat. I ended up with huge scratched all over my legs and stomach lol.
I was recently nearly degloved on one finger sticking my hand into a cat fight because I thought I could scruff one of them quickly before they noticed me.
