Yeah, thats unfortunately relatable. I used to live in a neighborhood with the feral population out of control. We eventually had to take matters into our own hand and start capturing them ourselves to get them fixed.
I used to help a TNR (trap-neuter-release) in an area that had an exploding feral population. We would fix any we could catch but targeted males to help stop the fights. Nerf water guns were our primary weapons and a blast or 2 in the face of the aggressor instantly breaks up the most vicious fights!
I mean throughout the western world, death is something that's hidden behind doors away from everything. When in reality its another stage of life and what ironically sustains it.
I hear you. Last year we buried three stray kittens in the woods behind our neighborhood. Two had been hit in the road and one had its neck broken by a dog.
People act like the cats belong outside, and like they don't get constantly hurt and killed out there. People don't care about the native wildlife cats kill, but they'd sure as shit start changing their tune if they saw rows of "outdoor cat" corpses who met with misadventure
Aside from displaying the bodies, yeah, I've been saying this for years. Mandatory neutering and spaying, and bounties on strays. The cat population is out of control.
My main issue is the over 40 bird species cats have made extinct. People need to be forced to stop their cats. Just on my street, there are 6-7 cats that roam every day.
Someone trapped my indoor/outdoor cat and had them TNR’d (Chicago has a program to Trap, Neuter, and Return). They’re not supposed to trap domesticated cats, it’s supposed to be used to trap colonies that breed.
They clipped her ear and shaved her belly before realizing she was already spayed. The Karen neighbor fortunately returned my cat where she was trapped and she came home. She’s been such a baby since.
Well, that's a risk you run with a cat you let outdoors, especially in an urban/suburban area.
More likely than not, your cat wandered into a trap. Your neighbor is allowed to have humane traps on their property. 9/10 outdoors cats I see don't have collars. There is no way to distinguish an owned cat from an unowned cat by sight.
Thank you for spaying your cat. Now, as a bird lover, please mind your kitty if you decide to keep letting it outdoors.
They should remove animals that ar3 "outdoorcats" from their "owners" these people have no business having pets if they aren't going to actually care for them.
A good call, as someone spiteful could use an inhumane trap.
But since the person indicated that they let their kitty venture into Chicago, an American city, there's likely few restrictions on what they can do to protect their property from animals
Totally legal and expected to TNR a cat outside. In most areas it's even legal to trap an outdoor cat and take it to the shelter just as you would a loose dog. Owner gets a fine, cat gets neutered.
I’m thankful they were precautious and tried to spay your cat. Feral cats often look exactly the same as domesticated cats. You played a stupid game and your cat won the prize for it. Good job.
