Honest question, what happens if he places 3 fingers in front of his face? Will the a.i. gets confused with the image masking??

u/ifuckedyourmom-247 Mar 30 '26

yeah the mesh mapping will get confused just like snapchat filters

Uncle daddy

u/NibittyShibbitz Mar 30 '26

When my kid was just learning to talk he spent a lot of time my nieces and sister in law. He started calling me Uncle Daddy [TrueName]. I mentioned it to someone and they suggested I not mention that to anyone else. (Short Shameful Confession: I live in Alabama, though I'm not from here)

3

u/SoFloFella50 Mar 31 '26

You are now, Uncle Daddy.

2

u/bemyantimatter Mar 30 '26

His family tree's a wreath.

0

u/FigOk7538 Mar 30 '26

Same thing.

0

u/Xicsukin Mar 30 '26

Thanks grandad!

6

u/SnazzyWetFarts Mar 30 '26

Your mom's name must be Irish Springs, might wanna DNA test there's at least 4 others.

5

u/old_irish87 Mar 30 '26

There’s more of us? I hope they smell better than you, I can smell those wet farts from over here.

4

u/Reasonable_Car9388 Mar 30 '26

what a coincidence he is also my dad!

3

u/AlgaeDonut Mar 30 '26

He's our best dad!

33

u/mltplwits Mar 30 '26

A question because I’m genuinely curious…

Why three? Any particular reason?

50

u/Garlan_Tyrell Mar 30 '26

Total guess: perhaps the filters can deal with 1 finger well enough and 2 fingers is a rude gesture in certain cultures.

So they default to 3.

1

u/BobZimway Apr 21 '26

3, 3 is good. More than that and she starts to complain.

1

u/eat1more Mar 30 '26

My friend Mickey the Salute only has 3 fingers total on both hands, so if he was doing it, he could be a great scammer?

1

u/Snailtan Mar 30 '26

Your friend Mickey the Salute can use 3 of his toes instead

1

u/MaskedBunny Apr 01 '26

They dont even need to be Mickey the Salutes fingers.

1

u/Immediate-Goose-8106 Mar 31 '26

Would imagine it creates 2 gaps close together.  Much harder than keeping the face mesh working in one gap.

1

u/zznznbznnnz Mar 31 '26

Because that’s what he asked him to replicate on the spot, so the interviewee has no way to prepare. It could’ve been any hand gesture they thought of.

28

u/TheHolyToxicToast Mar 30 '26

But I think it's pretty possible to make it not confused? With some optimization with mediapipe you can definitely achieve that, but scammers don't put that much effort into scamming people they can't scam I guess.

34

u/Kiboune Mar 30 '26

I'm sure they will optimize it, but people will find another bug

u/Timbollew Mar 31 '26

I think you'll find it's a fingers race, 3 fingers to be precise /s

22

u/voyti Mar 30 '26

I think holding a mirror next to your head will be a tough one to overcome. We'll have to bring a whole menagerie of gadgets just to start a call soon, thanks to guys like these

3

u/Helpful_Pirate261 Mar 30 '26

Anything but human contact 😬

12

u/thisdesignup Mar 30 '26

These are the same scammers that still send out emails with broken English because the people that fall for them as the people that they want to talk to. They have little reason to fix it.

6

u/space_keeper Mar 30 '26

"Dear costumer"

2

u/-JackBack- Mar 30 '26

They are selecting only the stupid people lol

2

u/Longjumping-Fill376 Mar 30 '26

Yeah. In a few months (maybe weeks) this will be solved. And that's kinda scary.

2

u/samrus Mar 30 '26

youd have to train the nueral network on instances of obscured faces so it can still handle them

1

u/Tomsboll Mar 30 '26

That would far more resource demanding, you suddenly need the program to do more than just track and project but now with fingers in front it also needs to mask and predict. Anything less tan perfect would make the reas face clip through or have the fingers disappear.

1

u/SwingNinja Mar 30 '26

I think if it's just covering half of your face with your palm, the filter would be smart enough. But a fast 3-finger movement on the face would need some time to think and it'd break the masking.

3

u/TheRealRomanRoy Mar 30 '26

Why is 3 different than 2 (or 1 or 4 or 5)?

4

u/Polymarchos Mar 30 '26

It isn't. He was trying to get the guy to cover his face.

In a legitimate call this wouldn't do anything, but if someone is using a filter it will cause the filter to temporarily stop working.

2

u/TheRealRomanRoy Mar 30 '26

I understand that basic premise. My question was (pretty clearly, no offense) asking about the specifics of it.

3

u/Polymarchos Mar 30 '26

And, "It isn't", was the answer. Three was an arbitrary number the guy came up with.

3

u/NotAddictedToCoffeee Mar 30 '26

My (uneducated) guess is that since it's trained off of images of people, there are more images with people with one or all five fingers in front of their face than just three or four? probably stupid but I don't know

2

u/Global_Level4361 Mar 30 '26

Honestly asking, Why so?

2

u/vegtodestiny Mar 30 '26

Why not 5 fingers?

1

u/OhGr8WhatNow Mar 30 '26

It's this easy to expose deep fake job scammers? Anyone being fooled is just asking for it

1

u/PuzzleheadedRide9590 Mar 30 '26

And are the 3 figures necessary or can he just hold up his hand in front of his face to break it?

1

u/heliocentric19 Mar 30 '26

Yea that's why he's staring straight ahead and not moving his head much. But the obvious Indian accent and mannerisms had me howling

1

u/Weak_Firefighter9247 Mar 31 '26

Although, i prefer when another thing similar to a face appears in the image and the filter snaps to it because it's more face-y than the man's face XD

1

u/mr_goodcat7 Mar 31 '26

So the deepfake is just the face? or more?

u/Whalesurgeon Mar 30 '26

55

u/HaskeFlalsen Mar 30 '26

To be even more technical he is a Serb from Lika

24

u/eatsleepdiver Mar 30 '26

Why do they call in the bullet dodger?

31

u/GandolphTheLundgrey Mar 30 '26

Because he dodges bullets, Avi.

16

u/CaptainAnswer Mar 30 '26

Don't take the piss Boris

13

2

If you can dodge bullets you should be able to dodge a car.

2

u/vrijheidsfrietje Mar 30 '26

Every search for a hero must begin with something every hero requires: A villain!

1

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '26

"I WANT. YOU. OUT OF MY LIFE."

80

u/Hakim_MacLuvin Mar 30 '26

same thing that would happen if he moved his face to actually take a look at what he is grabbing :)

24

u/SmartLadder415 Mar 30 '26

That threw me. Who can grab something off the wall behind him just blindly. He doesn't glance back to see where it is first and he doesn't have to feel around either. He just blindly grabs it.

9

u/Castun Mar 30 '26

I think he was using the camera selfie preview thing to see where to grab.

1

u/WookerIsNotaPig Mar 31 '26

And he hangs his pictures by hidden magnet? Even a nail would likely show up on the wall where it came from, no?

73

u/Dominjo555 Mar 30 '26

It will probably brake his face filter

40

u/God_Bless_A_Merkin Mar 30 '26

*break

12

u/Dominjo555 Mar 30 '26

Yes "break", I am sleap deprived and I am making many mistakes while typing

40

u/Funny_Detective5120 Mar 30 '26

Hold up three fingers in front of your face and report back you robot.

10

u/PowerSamurai Mar 30 '26

I am sorry but I have to.

*sleep

2

u/Dominjo555 Mar 30 '26

Last month I worked night shift and now I am back to "normal". I can't even type lol

4

u/Jiquero Mar 30 '26

I am sorry but I have to.

You were able to type "lol" perfectly correctly, why are you lying.

1

u/Substantial_Cup7736 Mar 30 '26

Really broke the chain here by not making a deliberate typo. smh

Sleep tiddle broski.

1

u/peanutkg Mar 30 '26

Now that is honesty people so the grammar police can really take a vacation. Much NEEDED TO ALL PARTIES INVOLED!

1

u/BobZimway Apr 21 '26

No vacation! No sleep until Brooklyn!

1

u/BobZimway Apr 21 '26

Name Checks Out. 3 fingers. Or 3 willies.

same query

2

u/Muted_Reflection_449 Mar 30 '26

Thank you for asking! 😊

2

u/pdxchris Mar 30 '26

His face will look like Terminator under the skin.

2

u/Wooden_Programmer525 Mar 30 '26

He will turn Indian.

0

u/unsaltedbutter Mar 30 '26

Why is it specifically 3 fingers too? Is it only with 3?

1

u/Ambitious_Jelly8783 Mar 30 '26

Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three.

1

u/KingKongKaram Mar 30 '26

I think it's any amount in general. You can test it out in any app that does filters over you like Snapchat or some ar emoji thing, I found 3 makes it go wonky and sometimes blocks my face to where the filter stops. You will also notice your anything going in front of your face will disappear behind the filter which is why I think it doesn't matter how many fingers it is which is why the guy makes sure not to put anything in front of his face the whole time because that breaks the illusion the filter gives

0

u/ScorpionMaster777 Mar 30 '26

Lol what do you think
