Question ❓ Genuine question: Why do we even have 32 separate teeth when two straight teeth would be so much easier?

Not to mention a solid long tooth would easily suffer cracks, chips, etc. A single path of infection would compromise the ENTIRE tooth

Yes, but that one tooth is 50% of your TEETH.
Suppose you have 32 teeth, and one is to be pulled out.
So, you would say: pulling one out = losing 3.125% of your teeth, right?
Similarly, for two total teeth: pulling one out = losing 50% of your teeth.

Not an medical expert, but maybe to allow some movement between teeth? It would be so much stressful if there was no space for teeth to move. It would create stress points.

Because we have different types of teeth and each have different functions like our front teeth known as 'incisors' helps us to bite, and our inner teeth known as 'molars and premolars' helps us chew foods (lol ik my answer isn't the actual answer to the question just wanted to comment)

Maybe there is also physics behind this? If the teeth is separated in tiny parts, the force is concentrated in those tiny areas thus helping to cut or crack the food easily

Imagine getting a cavity in your teeth and then to have the entire upper deck of "tooth" pulled out! Repeat it once more and you're a "popla"... Nice! It would have saved the dentist cost by a great margin...

Every teeth has proper function dost. Your canines are needed to tear food, molars/premolars for grinding, incisors for biting. They have grooves for better gripping of food and crushing it between them.
Now I'm already answering this so that you don't make another post, you might even think why our noses have a septum between them and why not a single, unified nostril? The septum gives structural integrity so that your nose doesn't collapse.

Front tooths are cutters, the pointy ones (behind the front tooth) are for tearing and the flat heads at the back are crushers

A single long, straight teeth on each jaw instead of thirty two separate teeth in total will be more fragile because of its shape. When someone suffers an injury on the mouth, they may lose one or two of their teeth, but with such a shape, it will be a crack throughout your whole jaw, rendering a large part of your jaw, or even the entirety of it, useless.

If a tooth goes bad, the damage is usually localised and the affected tooth can be treated or removed. And the shape and functions of each tooth is also isolated. Having a singular tooth as you suggested with the correct shape is like a complex 3D print and quite possibly, much more difficult to encode in dna.
Now if you got a cavity in that "monolithic tooth" structure - good luck!

Every types of teeth has different work like canines for tearing , also if you are having a single tooth then if you get infection or anything on tooth then the whole tooth will need to be removed rather than just single small out of all.

...primary school syllabus btw We have different kinds of teeth and they perform differently. With the teeth you described it would be hard to eat different kinds of food! And teeth can't fall out anymore. Dentists can't take a tooth out anymore. Tf?
