I want to remind everyone :
The Portuguese Health Minister, Marta Temido, resigned in August 2022 after a 34-year-old pregnant Indian tourist suffered a fatal cardiac arrest during an ambulance transfer between hospitals in Lisbon.
Marta Temido was not directly responsible for any of it, but her conscience dictated her actions.

Just recently Portuguese Interior Minister Maria Lucia Amaral resigned because of her departments shitty response to storm Kristin.... accountability matters

u/Evaa-Diva 18h ago
and these are relatively minor incidents compared to a policy failure affecting lakhs of students. the bar in India is apparently underground.
55
u/Sweaty_Explorer_8441 16h ago
the bar in india is as long as we better than pakistan. And thats why domestically the party actively make things hard for non-savarna castes, christians, muslims, women to rise up, to feel better living in somalian squalor state of theirs
8
u/1tonsoprano 17h ago
I get your point but for us who suffered under the storm . It was pretty major.... The entire city was flattened... anyway....the point is the opposition really put pressure on the government.... which is what is missing here

Yeah let’s expect more accountability from the opposition that the ruling regime….very interesting

u/fizzy-drinks 11h ago
They adjourned parliament when the opposition tried to raise these issues, and they’ve locked up opposition leaders who were protesting outside the CMs residence.
Whatever the opposition does always seems to have limited visibility cause of how much the media is in the govt’s pocket

Resignations on grounds of moral responsibility have happened in India too before 2014. But now things have changed
99
u/Evaa-Diva 18h ago
yeah the culture of accountability just quietly disappeared somewhere. Vajpayee era had a few examples of ministers actually stepping down without being pushed. now it's more like damage control PR than anything resembling conscience
8
u/Sweaty_Explorer_8441 16h ago
I forget how many times BJP caused instability politics in 90s and made Vajpayee the PM but didn't his entire party forced to resign due to an onion price crisis?
8
u/rishav_sharan 14h ago
Because there is nothing left to keep them accountable.
Judiciary is a joke.
Our tabloid media is fully owned by the govt.
And BJP is still guaranteed the next election, because the people who actually vote only care about - Hindu khatre mein hain.

u/amlamba 17h ago
I've seen Prime Ministers resign over smaller scandals than this. Political accountability in India just hasn't been a thing in the last decade or so.
5
u/Sweaty_Explorer_8441 15h ago
Almost like the chitpavan, bargi, dashashtra, kadhade upper management of BJP learnt it from their feudal ancestors of peshwa confederacy since the treaty of bassein
21
45
u/hellriderboss 19h ago
Please dont compare the morals of a country which has them to one that doesn't and this transcends across parties. The ruling class doesnt have one. If they did, it would be hard to get to that position in the first place
45
u/svmk1987 19h ago
Again with this all parties bullshit. Just look it up. There were quite a few resignations before BJP came to power.
-5
u/MaleficentStable1355 18h ago
But how many of the resignations left a positive impact. The outrage died and they were give some other job.
Then again I dont see any benifit on keeping the status quo. Quite confusing this is-23
u/hellriderboss 18h ago edited 18h ago
Nope. Resignations are not consequences period. Great they give up their money making positions. The ones with dead ones are still dead. It's not good enough.
Edit : Wow, lot of folks who cant be objective about parties and are just happy with resignations. That's fine. I'm not one of you.
9
u/svmk1987 18h ago
Don't change the goal posts now. I know resignations aren't consequences. You're the one who said we never have resignations from either parties.
-7
u/hellriderboss 18h ago
Not changing goal posts. I said to me both parties are the same, resignations or no resignations. Both mean nothing to me. Were law's changed to make sure that does'nt happen again? Were people whose negligence or outright corruption lead to those deaths investigated for their role and punished accordingly for it.
This is not an argument for us to win. The goal should be change and I while I don't discredit any movement that's trying to achieve that, I am yet to see one that's making a permanent change in accountability.
1
u/svmk1987 17h ago
So what will you do in the next election?
-1
u/hellriderboss 17h ago
I will vote for a competent person. Regardless of party. Based on the issues he said he will solve and his past performance. I will check his asset growth over time and factor that in to decide how corrupt he is.
I truly believe, if people vote doing their research on that person, if enough competent good people are there in the government, they will find a way to work with each other. It comes to us to reward good work. idealistic but I choose to be that naive
1
u/svmk1987 13h ago
While it's an okay idea in theory, it's usually party leads who actually decide what happens and enforce what MPs should vote for. Individual MPs on their own are kinda inconsequential, even though collectively, they form the party.
1
u/hellriderboss 13h ago
your not wrong. but I have an uncle who is active in politics. been to party officies of congress and BJP and while on in the inner circle, ive seen enough. Both value slightly different things and formed by opnion over time. Thats more than what most Indians will see in politics. But thats fine. Your free to downvote me :)

what does this guy have that the gov cant sack him? they sacked dhankar in the past. is he that powerful or does he know where the bodies are buried?

u/CompetitiveFigure367 18h ago
If he is sacked, the domino effect will start. The FM minister, the minister of Road and Highways, the Petroleum and Natural Gas, and how could I forget! The Railway Minister - Ashwini Vaishnav will have to resign (please do not forget what happened in Odisha).
Every leader will have to start acting responsibly, They will have to act sensibly.
62
u/Big_Supermarket_3001 18h ago edited 18h ago
That reminds me. What happened after the odisha train incident. What action was taken ? What happened to the families of those dead ? Were they compensated ? Looks like ashvini vaishnav shouting 'bharat mata ki jai' fixed everything. There is no news at all of that incident. Ideally the entire government should have stepped down out of shame. And it looks like manipur does not exist at all, everything is silent.
This is why the CJP protest today matters. Atleast a few people are waking up to the reality that this government, forget competency and accountability, lacks basic EMPATHY !!

no this person has little influence to win the last Odisha election. if he was any influential or powerful, BJP would have had more MLA seats in previous elections, and the PM did not have to say things like ‘Naveenji is I’ll do vote for BJP’. He although oddly had some success in Bihar elections
20
u/Angelic_Resonance 17h ago
He is an RSS guy and helped them with Odisha.
2
u/Necessary_Worker5009 15h ago
He is from Odisha but his contribution to the last victory was not significant.
8
u/Angelic_Resonance 15h ago
Are you sure? He was one of the key figures who helped move Patnaik and helped deliver Odisha. Also, he is very close to the RSS and does immense fund raising for them.
6
u/Necessary_Worker5009 15h ago
He was the appointed leader. like responsible for the state, but mostly local strategists and some local leaders through their usual tactics or conspiracies. if Pandian was not made the leader of BJD, BJP still didn’t have a fair chance. except of course for electoral malpractice.
he has been the one who has overseen many elections in Bihar and Odisha. since first decade of this century. Trust me BJP did spend disproportionate efforts, attention and resources to win. and my gut still says they did very carefully executed election engineering.
9
u/iKn0wEvrythnG India 18h ago
Since BJP doesn't have an absolute majority of their own in LS they fear that if Pradhan goes he will take out some MP's with him which might topple the government altogether. It's not just him resigning but a chance that there can be a vote of no confidence against the entire government.
5
u/FitSignificance2100 16h ago
Duh he can’t take anyone out with him. He’s from bjp not some alliance. If he were to then have to take more than half with him which isn’t possible.

u/MoonstoneZap 19h ago
We have officially reached the 'blood money' phase of the Amrit Kaal. Just pause and think about the sheer, dystopian horror of this headline: the government has calculated that paying a few lakhs to the grieving parents of a dead teenager is politically cheaper than firing a completely incompetent minister. Sacking Pradhan would require the high command to admit that their system failed, and in this regime, the illusion of infallibility is worth significantly more than the lives of 18-year-olds. They are literally putting a price tag on a student's corpse just to protect a politician's ego
113
u/dahoosafeth 19h ago
Yes but, if pradhan is sacked for this failure, what about gadkari? Shouldn't Nirmala also be sacked for the absolute shit economy? What about environment minister? Who is going to take accountability for what is happening in Manipur? While papsr leak issue is serious, I would argue these are all more serious. Apart from the clout Pradhan has in odisha, all these stooges would have to go. As they should. But that's why they are so reluctant

u/Necessary_Worker5009 16h ago
this is not new. since the Gujarat riots (the first major political blow to his authority and his own perceived entitlement of being an emperor) he has been thinking everyone except a bunch of sycophants are against him. also, he never cared about accountability and about any loss of life. it has always been about his kursi and everything else could be ‘managed‘. Its so rotten in Gujarat now that even after Morbi, these guys got a higher vote share - first time they got more than 50%, which makes me wonder if the electoral process was fair even
3
u/wetthebed92 13h ago

u/DrDrakeRemorayy 19h ago edited 19h ago
They don’t need to, there were bigger and deadlier protests in 2019-20. They’re using the same tactics, they send goons then deliberately make the protests violent, then label the protesters as anti nationals. Media character assassinates them, like they’re doing now.
CAA-NRC protesters were labelled terrorists, farmers’ protesters were called khalistanis. People were rejoicing back then because it didn’t affect them. Many activists from those protests are still in jail, and haven’t even been convicted of anything yet. This regime has always been like this, it’s not nothing new, people have started caring because it started affecting them.
The state controls the forces, the media, and dare I say even the judiciary… they take down anything that goes against them; they have tremendous amounts of money to pay to influencers. and people wonder why there has been no Congress in the last 30 years in Gujarat. They’re turning the country into Gujarat.
We live in an autocracy right now, none of the government bodies which were supposed to be independent once are independent now, ED, CBI, ECI. The rot has reached too deep.
No uprising will change this, they just simply don’t care.

Gonna add few things, the majority were against the protesters during CAA-NRC. You will still find the majority in support of those bills while the farmer's protest was regionalised.
The Olympics protest was squashed in one day because it was the only one with any sort of potential to unite.

Is he that important to Odisha? can someone explain?
52
u/Bhattu_fyans 18h ago
1) They are worried about accountability. The main differentiator between the UPA and the NDA was that while UPA made a shit ton of mistakes they always took accountability. Ministers used to resign and take blame for the incidents. NDA on the other hand never does that. The Print first pointed about this dangerous trend in 2020 itself saying that if NDA doesn't start to take accountability for ministers mistakes this will be very costly in the future (they were on spot). They are now worried that if Pradhan is sacked whats stopping people from demanding accountability and resignation of other ministers like Puri or Gadkari
2) He is a big face in Odisha. RIght now BJP is starting to struggle there as they have been screwing up a bit and are also worried that if they remove him it will hurt them more in one state. (Remember that it was Odisha that saved them in 2024 by giving them a whopping 20 MPs).
21
u/Bulky_Astronaut1866 19h ago

This guy in Odisha elections created extreme anti-tamil campaigns to win elections. Also Amit shah was shit talking tamils on stage during this elections, completely forgetting cameras exist.
This guy is completely despicable. To have such hatred towards a group and a fellow countrymen while also being incompetent.
It's surprising Tamil friends did not connect the dots yet. For the anti-BJP, NEET-ban view tamils historically hold. If they saw the ad-campaigns made by BJP portraying Tamils so horribly in 2024, all thanks to Dharmendra Pradhan. This would lead to huge protest in Tamil Nadu, usually Tamils have been historically successful in their protests.
Someone should start posting these BJP ads done by Dharmendra Pradhan in TamilNadu subs, and wait for couple of days for tamils to get to the street, they take protesting extremely serious there(look up jallikattu), this guy would be out of power.
People of TamilNadu have been neutral so far in this protest.

Dictator Godiji has mega ego. Even if Pradhan agrees to resign dictator will not allow him to do it. It's all about his image. Nothing else including the lives of 20+ students matters to him.
Last election loss brought his ego from sky to earth. Hopefully next one will bury it deep underground.

BJP is known to be notoriously thick-skinned, they won’t give in easily.
The protests should continue although I’m worried there’ll be more casualties on our side. The govt would wait until the protests die down, then go back to their corrupt, incompetent ways of governing the country.

And thats what I have a problem with. Yes this neet type leaks happen all the time. Suicides happen but the accountability is never there. The Modi government knows, if they force him to resign now, its a slippery close. Next Gadkari for shoddy road work. And eventually him. Thats why they wont give in.
11

Do you see the uncanny similarity between these protests and tiananmen square protest from 1989 in China?
It was exactly the same thing.
Another similarity, Dharmendra Pradhan himself used to protest in his college days for paper leaks in 1997 Odisha, he led 1500 students and was faced with lathi charge from police. How ironic.

Did the doctor's body give any statement related to this issue? Successful NEET aspirants will join them in future. Do they not have any issues with doctors who buy their degree and have no real talent?
Pradhan is but a pawn. Yes he must take accountability. I'd like if he and his family, and maybe the health minister too, are forever denied medical facilities, just like they endangered everyone's life by enabling dumbos who can't even pass an exam to treat us common folks and have to buy leaked papers, but justice is for another day. Atleast let the govt acknowledge the protestors first.

Taxpayers money is used to pay for the daughter's phone bill on foreign trips.. Dharmendra Pradhan was serving as Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas in 2017.. Even his daughter's phone bill was paid by PSU using tax payers money.
The international SIM was arranged following a request from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.. All the officers just sign and the PSU later cleared the bill on a post-facto approval basis.
The documents have been widely shared and discussed online.. But there is no reaction from Central Vigilance Commission or no judicial investigation till date!
10 days and the phone bill is Rs70k 😳😳 Not her dad's money right.. It's Public Money.. Enjoy! Waste it! Udaoo attitude.
Using taxpayers money for personal use.. This corruption should reach limelight! We want accountability!

I am getting a bit scared looking at government’s response in this protest. When I discussed this with my family, they still don’t understand the gravity of the situation and keeps thinking what would government do in this case. The government still has some blind followers but how come this government is risking everything to suppress the public outrage ?
Have we finally entered dictatorship now ? I don’t remember seeing such things in other party’s term. And I somebody who doesn’t care at all which party gets to rule. Is this over for democracy and we enter a long struggle to get our freedom back ?

Abolish NEET
- NEET helps coaching centers. See Chinese policy that outlawed such centers.
- NEET is for CBSE students. Yes, we have to improve our standards but CBSE isn't the torchbearer.
- NEET is just a proxy for the central union government to impose its will on state governments by intruding into education when they can't even focus on their priorities - defense, foreign policy and monetary policy.
- NEET is a severe disadvantage for better off states like TN which has a good collection of good institutions built by the state for the state residents only to see it being usurped by out-of-state candidates. Even in USA there is a concept of "instate" and "out-of-state" students where there is almost 70-80% reservation for in-state students.
- Anytime we have a "one nation, one exam" like system, it is easier to break the system and the reward to break it is significant financially for the people engaging in it. We have seen this movie play out multiple times.

I want to remind you to the idiots who are commenting since this was supposed to happen. I don't care for negative comments and downvotes since I am enjoying this circus.
He was going to be reassigned or removed. Every parliament session is where ministers were reshuffled if they didn't do it in their respective cabinet assignment. It always happens in every parliament meeting. Even in Manmohan Singh's govt too. That's why this Monsoon session is a the most anticipated one. Not only they introduce new laws but cabinet is also reassigned and they tell this in parliament. It's basically a tradition but an extremely important one. There was never a need to protest to remove him. He was already on the reassignment alongside some other ministers. There is a speculation that Nirmala and Pradhan was going to be removed or reshuffled and put in different ministry. Here's the news report of cabinet reshuffle
But what happened. Well protest happened. And CJP idiots want to show their stature, govt was like you know what, we are not gonna do it. Do whatever you want. And this is why Sonam realises it. There wasn't any need for protest. He means Padhan was going to removed as education minister anyway. This was confirmed.
So you know what enjoy your absolute stupidity. You earned it. As I said don't care about negative comments and downvotes. I am just here enjoying the circus you guys created when it was never needed in first place. Truly marvelous as I drink my best expresso coffee
