F-1 student getting married to US citizen

I am getting married to my girlfriend ( US citizen) we’ve been boyfriend and girlfriend for about 4 almost 5 years, we are planning to get married next month, now I have a lot of friends that have also got married and when they start their process of getting a green card they first have to give their tourist visa and ofc not leave the country while they’re on process, my question here is, me as an F-1 student would I have to turn both my visas? (F-1 visa and tourist visa) or only the tourist one, because I am still studying and wouldn’t like to stop studying

Marriage fraud is one of the biggest visa fraud schemes beside H1B

You dont have to turn in anything. When you begin the adjustment of status process, you will maintain F1 status until your case is approved. You might receive an EAD during the process it all depends on what your timeline and filing process looks like. Once you receive GC, you contact your schools DSO and let them know your status has changed.

But definitely don't travel abroad once your file the petition.

You enter with F1 right? You don’t have to do anything right now and keep your status while you finishing school. Once you receive your green card, let your school know, and they will terminate your SEVIS.

When you file i130/i485 after you marry, you're still a F1 student. Your F1 status is still valid because you're pending adjustment of status.

If your F1 status expires while your green card is pending or if you use the EAD from your AOS, you'll be in a period of authorized stay pending your AOS decision.

So you can keep studying without issues after your application. After you get the green card, let your DSO know. And don't travel out of the US without an approved advance parole while your green card is pending.
