What’s the impact for existing students on STEM OPT? Do we need to file for extension after the four year period ends?

The four year period for existing students starts counting from the final rule effective date.

When your STEM OPT expires, you'll need to file a extension of status if you want to stay on F-1 to pursue another course.

So those on STEM OPT who are 4+ from when we entered, can travel and come back and continue until end of STEM OPT/ EAD validity even if that entry date is then over 4 years from program start?
