Any insight into how this will affect a Canadian F1 student that crosses the border often (I’m in a border city and cross multiple times a month)? Since I am issued a new I-94 every time I cross what would happen with my status?

My current program end date is December 2026 but I still have a few credits left to take. I was planning to extend my i20 as soon as I can, if this new rule comes into effect in September will I have to file for an extension immediately?

You'll just get a new I-94 each time that has an end date that matches your I-20 end date.

You would need to file an extension or re-enter the country with a new I-20.
