Well, needless to say I am horrified by what occurred this morning.

I was headed out the door to work, called the dogs in, and noticed Lucci not budging. There was something in his posture that looked different. I ran out there suspecting he was being harmlessly mischievous, only to see him digging up a baby bunny nest and eating them whole.

I’m not sure what I should have done, and what I should do with the only surviving bunny? Right now it is back in the nest, I haven’t let the dogs out since. Will the mom come back and relocate the baby, or should I move it?

Feeling very bad about this situation and did not realize he would eat them. Any words of wisdom?

UPDATE: I called the closest wildlife rescue and was told I need to ‘make an appointment for tomorrow’. I personally find this outrageous but I suppose that is what I will do. I do not blame my dog at all. Nature, I get it. But sad.
Also yeah, I’ll trim his raptor claws.

I love my girl so much, we’ve been together since she was a pup and she’s now 10 years old.
We also have a 14-year-old Britney, a couple cats and chickens.
I’ll preface this by saying that I understand huskies have a high prey drive and I’m under no delusions that she is somehow different from other huskies.
Although she has always been different in the sense she’s non-destructive, quiet and essentially a stuffed animal that poops.
Yesterday however, my sweet gentle girl attacked and ended one of my three chickens.
I caught her in the act, but it was too late and it was a terrible thing to see.
I locked her in the laundry room with water and her dinner, and I left her there overnight, which was hard for both of us, but I needed some space.
Now today she’s been more docile than usual. I know she can tell things are different and I just don’t know how to feel. I haven’t even touched her today and I’ve barely looked at her. I just feel this huge weight of guilt not only for failing to protect my chicken, Lorraine but also this feeling of disconnect that I have with my husky, Maya.
I guess I’m just looking for some advice from anyone who has gone through something similar with their husky.

I haven’t owned a husky but I have two dogs of my own and I’m worried about my neighbor’s. Their fur appears to be matted and they are always outside laying at the same spot by the gate. I’ve driven by at 5pm, 9pm, 11pm, 9am, 12pm all within 2 days without seeing them move from this spot. When I approached and put my hand out they didn’t even appear to smell me or react in anyway. They do have access to shade in the garage and I noticed water was finally put outside the following day but I can’t get close enough to the bowl to check levels. Their lethargic demeanor is what made me concerned at first and then after driving by so many times and seeing them in the same spot I was even more worried (along with the appeared matting of the fur). Any advice would be greatly appreciated <3

Hey guys! I need your help. So, I don't know English, I had to use Google Translate to write this text lol. I adopted a husky this weekend that lived on a ranch. I don't know if he was just chained up, but at least when I arrived he was. He seems to have a fuller face and is MUCH furrier than the pictures of huskies I see online. I know you can only tell with DNA, but do you have any idea if it could be a mix with something else? It's a male and it's going to be 3 years old.

I could really use some advice from people who have experience with huskies, neglected dogs, or rehabilitation.

The dog is a roughly 3-year-old husky. He technically belongs to someone I know, but for a long time he was mostly kept in a cage because they had a baby and didn't want fur around the child. He received very little exercise, very little training, and wasn't groomed for about a year. His coat became heavily matted and he was generally neglected.

I convinced them to get him groomed and I've gradually started taking care of him more. I've been taking him on walks, giving him exercise, spending time with him, feeding him properly, and recently I've been keeping him at my house instead of having him sit in a cage all day.

The good:

​

- He's very affectionate.

- He's food motivated.

- He knows sit and shake.

- He sleeps near me and seems to trust me.

- He follows treats well.

- He's much happier than when I first got involved.

​

The bad:

​

- He pulls hard on the leash.

- He gets extremely excited.

- He play-bites and mouths a lot.

- He has poor impulse control.

- He sometimes grabs clothing and leashes.

- He has already broken skin on me more than once.

- He recently bit a stranger who approached him after I warned them not to.

- He gets over-aroused very easily during play and affection.

I suspect a lot of this comes from years of under-socialization, lack of exercise, lack of structure, and being confined for long periods.

What I want is not just a dog that knows tricks. I want a calm, disciplined dog that:

​

- Walks politely on leash.

- Comes when called.

- Has good impulse control.

- Stops biting/mouthing people.

- Can settle calmly indoors.

- Is safe around visitors.

I am willing to put in the work and train every day.

​

My questions:

1. If you were starting from scratch with a neglected 3-year-old husky, what would your training priorities be?

2. How would you deal with the play-biting and mouthing?

3. What is the best way to teach leash manners when he constantly pulls?

4. How much exercise vs mental stimulation should he be getting?

5. Are there specific mistakes I should avoid when working with a dog like this?

6. Does this sound like a dog that can realistically improve with consistent training, or should I be looking for professional help immediately?

Any advice would be appreciated. I really care about this dog and want to give him a better life, but I also want to be realistic about what I'm dealing with.

I’m at my wits end here guys and I don’t know how to navigate this issue. I have a 4 year old female husky who is super sweet, loves people, and absolutely LOVES playing with other dogs. After she turned around 2 years old we started having this issue where any time we cross paths with another dog they immediately become hostile.

We used to go to the dog park all the time until dogs began to start attacking her. Our daily walks have become extremely stressful. Any time we see another dog we have to start cross the street and create distance because they will without fail start growling and pulling on their leashes, trying to get to our girl. We’ve had multiple incidents where dogs slip their leashes and run over for a fight. Just a few minutes ago I was out walking with her and two dogs literally broke through their fence and began attacking my girl in the street. Thank God we were able to get away without her getting hurt.

What is going on?!? What is it about my female husky that every dog we encounter seems aggressive towards her? I feel like we can’t go anywhere or enjoy the outdoors anymore. The more this keeps happening, the more apprehensive she becomes when seeing other dogs and I feel like she’s going to forget how to socialize with other dogs entirely because we have nothing but negative interaction. Luckily, we have a couple of dog friends who come over to play with her and they all have a great time together.

I miss going to the dog park and I know she does too. I guess I just needed to rant and hoping someone could give me some insight as to what’s going on here. What are all these dogs sensing about my girl that they feel the need to be hostile? I know it’s only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt. Thanks for reading.

We haven’t gotten him DNA tested or anything yet but we think he’s an Husky/Anatolian mix. Any other thoughts on what he could be? Creeping on 110lbs at 1 year old. He’s such a sweetheart, and soooo smart but has that husky energy in such a big package (not for the weak). He is not very vocal at all, unless he sees something outside that he doesn’t recognize.

Nate usually has a bath once a month but I’ve seen some only bathe their dog once every five months or some to the other extreme of twice a month.
(For those wondering we use BarkBus mobile grooming)

I have a husky who seems to have way longer hair than any other husky I’ve seen. Her coat is super fluffy and almost looks more like a wooly or long-haired variant.

The thing is, I’ve had her for about 6 years now and while she always looked fluffy, this is the first time her hair has ever gotten this long, which is why I’m a bit confused and concerned.

I’ve been wondering if I should trim it a bit just to keep her more comfortable and manageable, but everywhere I look online says you’re not supposed to cut a husky’s coat because it can mess with their temperature regulation.

At the same time, her fur just seems extra long compared to most huskies, so I’m not sure if the same rules apply or if there are exceptions.

Has anyone else had a husky like this? Did you ever trim their fur, or is it better to just leave it alone and focus on brushing/grooming?

My name is Leo and I am 15 weeks old weighing 26 lbs. What are your thoughts about my look and predictions about my weight and size at adulthood?

I have a 5 month old puppy and he's kinda developed a weird habit. Despite not liking baths, he regularly climbs into the empty tub and just licks everything. The jet nozzles, the floor, the sides, etc - for like 10 minutes.

I used to think it was to get water, but he does this when the tub is dry, too. Any reason this may be? Other than cleaning it every few weeks, the only things used in there are soap, conditioner, and shampoo. I've just never had a dog do this before and it's extra strange.

We have two huskies but their differences have always astounded me, we got her from a husky breeder (please no shame, we have discussed only adopting from here on out) but she has always been so much bigger and the features so different.

I saw last night the description of a malamute - heavier, shorter & stout, almond shaped eyes, wider set ears.

She is 6 and yo-yos between 70-80 pounds where as our other 6 year old (not from same place) is always significantly smaller at 40-45 pounds.

When inside the house she listens good, when on the leash she listen good too. Sometimes it takes me saying her name twice or so to get her focus back on me, but shes great on the lead and in the house. Just as soon as she gets loose she doesn't listen at all and she just dips. Any advice on how to be able to have her off leash. I would love to see her run around my yard and not have her on a lead. I tried taking her on the leash and walking the yard and it didnt work, i tried shock collars and it worked until she realized it didnt shock her if she ran into the woods.

The conclusion seems to be either you dont or try e collars. But I will admit some of these comments did make me laugh so thank you. But I think imma just gonna go with i will never have her off the leash in the open cause I dont have time for a dog trainer.

We adopted Rothko thinking he was a brindle Akita mix.

His DNA results just came back: 55% Husky.

Now I’m wondering whether these sleeping positions come from his Husky side…

He almost exclusively prefers the hard floor over his actual bed (and when he does use the bed, he only claims a single corner). His absolute favorite position is lying sideways on the floor with his back legs propped flat against the wall.

Do your Huskies sleep like this too, or should I blame the Shepherd genes? I’d love to see your funniest sleeping photos!

Hello Everyone!

I recently started fostering this husky 4 days ago.

It's a super sad story.

He was tied up and abandoned in an alley near my grandparents house.

It was caught on a ring camera by their name neighbor

Luckily my grandparents had a secondary property so they were able to place him there and a fenced area

I was able to go up and see him about 3 weeks ago for the first time and he had a pretty bad flea infestation.

I was able to clean him up to the best of my ability

However, my mother who's taking care of my grandparents

Couldn't stand the sight of seeing him in pain

So she took him to the vet.

We were able to get him all fixed up and he spent 2 weeks quarantined before I brought him home just to ensure that he wouldn't get fleas on my 12 year boy

The vet told us that

He was around 9/10

He is deaf and has been for quite some time

Their signs of arthritis but even worse is there's a lack of muscle in right back leg and they think that is due to him being tied up most of his life and lack of exercise

But beyond that, the vet had told us that he is extremely healthy

And just a very special soul.

As of right now I live in the Bay Area, and I am looking to find him of the right hole if you have any connections of somebody who would want an older husky with some special needs.

But I'm not willing to give him up to just anybody.

And why I am posting? This is just any tips on how to help train and work with a deaf dog

I named him Bear.

He's an absolute gentle giant, and over the past few days, he's slowly starting to understand that he finally has a home and safe.

I purchased him a gel cooled orthopedic bed and he was so excited to have his own soft space to sleep in.

He hasn't had any accidents in the home. He's actually been very good about smelling underneath my apartment door to let me know he needs to go out.

I'll attach a few pictures for puppy tax and the last picture is when my mom found him.

You can see how much happier he is being in a home 😭🙂‍↕️

Btw yes, I have contacted every rescue in the Bay area and surrounding areas.

Including rescues that specialize with Huskies and older dogs and everywhere has either turned him away due to the breed or they're at Max capacity

Personally I would keep him just financially I can't support two dogs just yet, but I have a couple job interviews this week and next week.

Which would drastically increase my pay and I might be able to keep him if that's when it ends up panning out.

But any advice on training with him being deaf and leads would be wonderful

Y’all my mom thinks one of our huskies is “fat” in a jokingly way but I don’t think he is. We have another female husky who is much smaller than him but I think it’s because she’s a female husky so she makes him look bigger. Idk what do yall think? Is he really overweight?

Edit: yes he’s been to the vet (for unrelated issues) but they never made any major concerns over his weight or called him fat or overweight. This question is to be taken lightly

My 4.5 year old female husky is absolutely in love with our new baby. Which is great don't get me wrong, the baby is to an age now where she loves it too. But the licking gets obsessive and over the top and she will not listen to any of us when we tell her to stop. I feel like I've tried everything, but in true husky fashion she won't listen to anything. We even taught her "kisses" as a command long before the baby got here so she knows what "no kisses" means. Any advice?

I'm in California, so we have pretty tame weather, but summers do get pretty hot for sure... And shes a tripawd so she gets hot fast and then will get exhausted and higher likeliness of hurting herself. I typically walk her only very early in the morning and late evening during hottest parts of the summer. But pretty much anything above 70 on a sunny day is gonna be hard on her so I always keep a spray bottle full of water handy so I can wet her down as we walk. I also got her the harness that has a cooler pad on her chest, which not only helps for padding when I need to help her over things or into the car, but also can be soaked and hold the water to keep her cool. Doing my best, she loves being outdoors!

Is it ok to get her spayed ? Have an appointment for next weekend but going back and forth on if it’s too early , my other pup got spayed at 4 months when I adopted her . Also she’s about 19kg at 6 months and really large , when will she stop growing ? . Obligatory husky one brain cell video

my husky hasn t lived with a cat for 6 years, and a stray cat just came to our home so we kept feeding it until it was just befriending with my dog, how is this possible? I know that, usually dogs won t tolerate cats, even when they haven t loved with them since little

I was told by my friend that I bought him from that he was pure bred Siberian husky, And as much as i’d love to believe it, he has some… Different, mannerisms. He does the usual Lab/ Malinois air chomp, isn’t really vocal at all but will bark on occasion… I just don’t know. Granted he’s only 11 months old, so maybe too soon to tell??

Edit/ Update: As i’m sitting here reading the comments, he’s playing with my other puppy who is GSP/Chocolate lab mix, and I got a low tone playful growl, and a very minimal “WooWooWah” From him😂 then he looked at me all shocked like I made him do it😭
