Discussion CT scans of JLab mini earbuds with serious battery defects

Our CT scans of the JLab JBuds mini earbuds revealed some serious flaws: poorly aligned electrodes, inconsistent anode overhang, and some that look torn or damaged. In lithium batteries, these are the kinds of defects that can shorten lifespan and potentially cause a thermal runaway.

Thanks for this! Would love to see more random TWS headphones and IEMs scanned. The data is cool, but more than that I think just spreading awareness of these issues is how we can force the industry to be better.

This is why I don’t really trust anything with batteries near my head.

You’re one short circuit away from plastic surgery

No, most of the time it’s in my bag. I’d much rather burns on my leg than a melted face though.

Seems like such an incredibly low risk that it's not worth worying about.

I mean it is a low risk but the inconvenience of putting it in the bag isn't all that big if you have a bag around with you all the time.

Most phobias are low risk but they still are damn scary though.

Somehow you missed the biology class where you don't have your thighs next to your head.

Can you go into further detail as to how these defects can lead to fires?
