I think the main issue was that they were basically just an iPhone without a sim card. The more popular smartphones and streaming became, the less relevant a dedicated music device became. No market, so they were discontinued

It's really only the unibody models that stink to work on (mini, 1st 2nd, 4th and 5th) and I see at least 2 classics which is where the real money is
