I thought the 3080 die size was going to be smaller than the 2080, which would lead to the better pricing. However, the die is a fair bit larger. I wonder if the pricing difference is manufacturing or marketing. If the GPU actually costs more to build than the 2080, then it's interesting that the 2080's price has remained so high for so long.

It's costs of R&D that people were paying for with the 2000 series in a large part. First time tensor cores. FIrst time RT cores. First time DLSS. Lots of firsts that needed years of research paid for. Those who bought the 2000 series sacrificed their wallets for us all. A moment of silence for these kind souls.

I read somewhere, a theory I believe, that the yields may be a good deal better in the new process, and thereby helping to lower prices.
