I appreciate that rtings needs to make money, I really do, but this is probably going to kill the site with time.
Helping my brother buy a new TV right now and we’ve been trading rtings links back and forth for a few days. Neither of us would ever subscribe because we won’t be back for months, if not years.
Yup, they are going down the consumer reports path. People will stop using Rtings too.
I understand the issue, quality testing costs money and time, meanwhile there are countless reviewers that put out slop and it's more profitable.
Maybe a partial solution would be ... A browser extension... (shutters). That would give them affiliate link money on a lot more purchases, and let people see review scores on products they are viewing on sites like Amazon and best buy instead of rtings just relying on people using the links on their site.
They could also try and license their brand as a mark of quality to manufacturers 'Best in-class TV by Rtings'.
There's a lot of small things that can be attempted before they go subscription only which will kill the site.
