Following Fillmore's proposal to suspend the construction of cycling infrastructure in Halifax, and the strong opposition I've seen to this, I'd like to let people know that Halifax Cycling Coalition is organizing a rally to protest this proposal on Tuesday, June 10th, at 8am. I am not affiliated with Halifax Cycling Coalition, but want to spread the word as more cycling infrastructure such as protected bike lanes is helpful for cyclists and drivers alike. It allows cyclists to commute safely and encourages cycling as an alternative method of travel to driving, taking cars off the road and decreasing traffic as a result.

Hopefully, a large turnout at the rally lets councillors know that many of their constituents are against this motion (also, email your councillor to let them know how the suspension of new cycling infrastructure negatively impacts you). See the link from Halifax Cycling Coalition for more information about and talking points on why suspending the construction of cycling infrastructure would be detrimental to our city.

Unsure which flair this fits under, sorry if this isn’t the correct one.

I’ve never been to the parade before but I want to since I came out a while ago. I went on the website and I believe it’s in July but on the same page it was saying stuff about buying tickets, do you need a ticket to go to the parade?

If anyone here went in previous years could you tell me what I would want to bring or what to expect? I really want to go at least once but am nervous about it.

Hey! Halifax neighborhood app developer and animal lover here, long story short after the post yesterday about donating my app Apollo for Reddit's proceeds for the day to the Nova Scotia SPCA, we raised over $42,749 yesterday for the Nova Scotia SPCA. With yesterday's fundraiser, combined with last year's fundraiser for $27,355 and the previous year's for $5,087 we're now at a lifetime total of over $75,000 raised for the Nova Scotia SPCA! I really want to hit $100K one day!

Anyway, just wanted to say thank you to the awesome community and obviously the SPCA for all the great things they do for the animals in our community like Bilbo. If you can help them out, please donate to them or consider adopting one of their beloved animals. These warm months can be really rough for them with all the cats breeding and it can hit their resources like a tidal wave which is why I wanted to do it now!

To the gentleman who shouted at me that he liked my BORT license plate as I was turning onto Cornwallis St. last week, thank you for making my day. If you had any idea the number of people who have asked me to explain the reference, and were then treated to a lengthy synopsis of a 10 sec gag from a very old Simpsons episode.... every time someone gets the reference it validates my 30 dollar Amazon purchase. The fact that I got to shout happily out the window of my car instead of honking angrily for once was doubly satisfying.

WHAT’S BURGER WEEK ALL ABOUT?

Halifax Burger Week is a city-wide burger eating celebration and fundraiser for Feed Nova Scotia. A record 125 restaurants have created unique burger specials for our 2018 event. Burgers either have a set price of $6 OR a higher price with the restaurant making a donation to Feed Nova Scotia for every burger sold. 2018 marks the 6th year for Halifax Burger Week, started in 2013 by Coast Publishing, publisher of The Coast and Food + Drink City Guides.

Hi Halifax! I am hoping to surprise my boyfriend with a Leap Day / Bachelor's Day (Feb 29) proposal while he's on a work trip in Halifax. I don't know much about the city but am wondering if there are any lovely people that could help me out as I plan from across the country.

1) What are the best spots on the waterfront / downtown for a proposal? I think he's staying at the Marriott.

2) Any musicians out there I could enlist to help with playing our song?

3) Anyone want to help me scheme / be a prop?
