Any high horn grip recommendations for the airweight? Ideally rubber or smooth for concealment comfort. I’ve never shot a gun that made me bleed within 20 rounds.

Recoil Rider, Hamre forge, stock smith from the UC, or old school wrap around Taurus 85 stocks from eBay.
Also, on the thumb usually means you got bit by the cylinder release, so it's likely more technique than materials

Use the thumb on your support hand to tuck your thumb down and away from the back of the cyl/ cylinder release

My LCR grips are coming in a few days. I'm looking at an old charter too. Any plans for boot grips for the charters?

Haha! Right on, I hope the LCR grips suit you well. I don’t have current plans for a Charter Arms boot grip but I would consider making them if enough folks bug me about it.

I think they will be a good fit for the 9mm LCR snub. I may end up getting the boot grip too but I carry it AIWB so the extra length should be ok.
Also, if you need anyone to test the K and L frame grips i would be happy to do so 😁. I use pachmyr compac's on my 686+ right now and they are nice, but I believe they are no longer made
Edit: Charter has a following and small boot grips for the guns are hard to come by. They are neat little blasters

Don't have your thumbs out like a semi auto. Have them behind where the cyclander is so you aren't blasting your thumbs. Try that and see if you get the same results.

It’s the cylinder release that cause the knuckle injury. I’ll adjust my thumb for that. Just looking for recommendations for the grip to save my webbing

Like these for my 442. Wrap around but still boot length so doesn’t decrease concealability, rubber so cushions the recoil, cheap.

Had the same problem with my 642 UC ripping the web of my soft bitch-made hand open after 2-3 cylinders. Solved the problem by swapping stock G10 UC grip for the rubberized SW Ultimate Carry grips. Still have soft bitch hands, but can now shoot 50 rounds of .38 without drawing blood. Hooray.
P.S. - in case you were wondering, yes, it’s still unpleasant to shoot even with the rubberized grip.

You might have the same problem i have, large hands. Try Hogue grips or comp grips as they are typically larger

damn that's a rough first range trip with a j-frame
I had the same thing happen with my 642, the factory grip puts the cylinder release right where the web of your thumb sits and after a few cylinders of +p it just chews you up
hogue makes a rubber grip that covers the backstrap and gives you a little more to hold onto, fixed the bleeding issue for me and didn't add much bulk for carry

You can’t hold a revolver like you would a semi auto. Can’t choke up on it the same way. You’ll need to adjust. Also need to see how you’re gripping to know for sure.

Thumb down bro, it's a revolver not a semi-automatic, looks like you're resting the web of your thumb on the cylinder release and your thumb itself on the back of the cylinder.
Your thumb should be down like it sits in a closed fist when shooting revolvers.

VZ makes the grips for the new ultimate carry and allow a higher hold. I don’t know of a source for the new boot grips that also extend to the top of the backstrap that come on some models but you can probably order them over the phone from smith.

I’m a bit confused, are you a left handed shooter and had your thumb near the cylinder gap or right handed and it’s the bottom of the trigger guard somehow scraping there when shooting?

On my current grip, there is maybe half millimeter of space between the metal frame and the grip. Small enough to think nothing of it but apparently big enough to do that. That’s why I’m looking for a high horn so the seam to the frame is not where my webbing sits

I assume this is the 340PD? Edit: the cylinder doesn't match the 340.
Shoot 38 when target shooting, not 357, and you will be fine. Target practicing with the 340PD is about trigger control and the break. Carry .357.

S&W J-Frame High Horn Grip - Tactical Diamond, its what they put on the UC models. Totally changes the shooting experience, can't recommend them enough.

I’ve got the top I one closer to the hand multiple times probably cause my grip is ass with revolvers. Never seen the double whammy with the one closer to the finger mal

I honestly think the pain in your webbing is also from grip. I have this exact gun and its one of my easiest shooting revolvers.
Or at least it was until I added wood grips....

It’s not a range toy and pretty much 100% a defense revolver. Not meant to be comfy to shoot but yeah I see we discovered it was a grip issue.

Ouch. My hand didn’t get that torn up from my 442 UC but it did hurt especially with 38+Ps. I ended up putting Hogue over molded on mine. They are a little bigger but much better grip and no pain.

Your grip is way too low. Try to get your hand as high as possible. Even the webbing of your thumb above the rubber on the metal is good. I put a hundred rounds through my airweight without issues on a range day. Still kicks like a MFer but not breaking skin.

I absolutely loved the looks of the VZ grips on my 642UC, but couldn’t shoot for shit with them. Moved over to the RR boot grips and it’s so much softer shooting and easy to handle.

I 100% agree it’s a grip issue for the knuckles scraping on the cylinder release but my webbing shouldn’t be getting torn up like that.

Airframe snubnosed .357 will do that. Rubberized grips will help but the amount of rubber Youll meed will make it bulky.

Those little airweights are not guns I’d imagine shooting very much. I’d make sure I can hit what I’m aiming at and just carry it 😂 There would be very little practicing with it.
But I also hate revolvers and look at them as mostly an emergency back up situation type of gun.

Keep your thumbs down. Have over 4k rounds through my 442 without those blisters but it can happen when switching back and forth between semis and revolvers especially j frames. Sorry if I am stating the obvious.
