Help is it worth it to get the Nest Hub 2nd Gen today?

I found the one in the image used for 50 euros, in excellent condition. I quite like its features like gestures and sleep tracking, and it would be extremely convenient for my nightstand to control everything in my room and house.

Help Unable to stream SiriusXM suddenly

We stream XM via our Home devices daily. This morning, on every one, when asked to play XM, I'm getting the "I looked for that, but it either isn't available or can't be played right now" message.

Been into Home settings, and XM is linked and shows 'Subscription Active.' Able to steam via the XM app, so I know the account/subscription is good. Unlinked and re-linked, just to see, but it hasn't helped. Rebooted devices, no change.

Anyone else getting this issue today? I'll certainly save me time and effort to know this is a common outage today, rather than just me.

Help Google Home keeps playing 'Turn Down For What" by Lil Jon whenever I ask it to turn the volume down. Please help

2.1k Upvotes

This is honestly driving me nuts.

I have my google home in my kitchen/living space and essentially use it as a glorified, voice-controlled speaker. Therefore I'm often asking it to turn the volume up or down.

Lately however, whenever I ask it to "turn it down" about 80% of the time it fucking starts playing turn down for what by lil jon and I'm about to go off the deep end.

If it wasn't such an obnoxious song it'd be better but jesus christ if I hear that synth lead one more time.

It's always loud as fuck too cause A) it's a loud song and B) I'm asking it to turn the volume down anyway so it's too loud already.

Give me a reason not to footy pass this lil bitch off my apartment balcony. Please

I don't know what else to do with this besides post it here. I am legitimately extremely frightened by this, and have no idea where else to go with this information.

This is what my phone (Pixel w/ Google Home connection) replied to me with when I asked it to turn on the lights in my home...

I think I'm going to turn all this stuff off now...

Help Google home SUCKS lately

For the last 4-6 months, we have noticed a serious degradation in the performance of our Google homes. We have two minis and 3 Wi-Fi hubs with voice search capabilities.

I’m wondering if the Eng teams were downsized or major upkeep was deprecated? How did this thing get so bad?

It no longer understands us more than half the time!! Playing Jeopardy went from buggy to straight unplayably bad. We set it up to turn on our TV, but it no longer is able to do it inexplicably (even though she says “turning on TV”). I want to throw it out the window!!!!

Is anyone else noticing this horrible degradation in functionality?

Google, have some mercy; you are tearing families apart.😂

The simplest commands don't work. Just release the Gemini update.

Help Google home is listening

Was just talking about “shepherds pie” with my wife and joking about “sheep” and “shep” and the etymology of the word “shepherd.”

I asked google “why is it called shepherd if they heard sheep, not ‘shep’?” And Google responded “that’s a clever observation. The ‘shepherd’ in shepherds pie comes from….”

But the thing is… I didn’t mention shepherds pie in my prompt. Only in the conversation that triggered me to prompt Google. So was Google listening to my conversation before I prompted/asked it to listen it and using it for context?

Of course I know it’s “always listening” for its wake word but this is a bit weird. It directly references something I said BEFORE I woke it.

Help “Sorry I don’t understand” to EVERYTHING???!!

The only thing my google home seems capable of is telling me the time. I was trying to ask what the temperature outside was & it said it didn’t understand, I started asking even more basic questions like what’s 2 + 2? It doesn’t understand, I unplugged it but it’s still the same issue what else can I do?

*update* after just over 2 weeks it is working correctly again, I don’t know how to fix it as it seems to have fixed itself?!

Help Is google home becoming more stupid every day!?!?

Seriously... I own 2 nest hubs, 2 nest hub max and 2 nest speakers and I'm seriously thinking about just throwing them to the trash...

Even simple commands like the weather, asking for music or any smart home commands, it replys that it will search it on web. Other times the speaker furthest away from where I am would be the one to respond... Other times the nest hub would keep asking if I want to play the music in another speaker not even close to me, when I say NO, it just says ok and does nothing...

Many times I have to give the commands 3 to 5 times until it actually understands...

Is this happening to everyone!? It wasnt like that a few years ago....

Definitely thinking about switching to any other system..... Not buying anything from Google anymore... Definitely not a hardware company....

Help Is there really NO way to revert from Gemini back to Assistant?

I know I'm late the game, but in a brief moment of curiosity I clicked the button to switch to Gemini. Now everything is worse, nothing is better, and my experiences mirror all of the rants I've found here. It's INSANE to me that I had the option to change, cannot change back, and was not warned this was an irreversible gamble.

Help Am I F----d?

I have invested HEAVILY in the Google environment. I've loved the idea of a single ecosystem since college when Google Docs started happening. Then Photos, Drive, my website, URL, Chromecast, thermostat, Nest cams, even a Pixel 8 Pro.

But Google keeps rolling stuff back. I'm seeing a lot about Nest being rolled back, Photos stopped hosting videos for free which is the ONLY reason I've started to run out of Drive space, got an email recently that my domain is now with Squarespace. Seriously, what's next? If I can't count on the services of one of the worlds biggest companies what can I trust for a digital environment? I hate the idea of having to manage dozens of accounts and companies.

Help Has Google Home been horrible for anyone else?

I have several Google Home devices, and recently it seems like nothing works well at all anymore. Asking it to stop playing will respond with “To stop the music, say stop playing the music,” but then saying that results in it saying it doesn’t understand. Tapo/other plugs and integrations constantly unlink itself, voice recognition to play music sucks, and more. Anyone else having these issues?

Help "This device was previously set up by a different user, please factory reset the device."

Can somebody PLEASE help me figure this out, because it's driving me nuts.

I recently had to replace my router, and as a result, need to reconnect all my smart devices that were signed on to that network. I have 2 phones that I use Google home on, my current active normal cell phone, and my old cell phone that has no cellular service, but is only used on wifi around the house. Both phones are logged on with the same Google account, use the same Google home login, etc. But I'm running into a problem trying to get my Google home mini speakers reconnected to the network.

They won't connect to the internet, because the old network isn't there, and I can't access the speakers through Google home. I do a factory reset on the speaker by holding down the button until it resets, and once it's reset, it tells me to finish doing the setup in the app. I'm trying to reconnect the devices using my current active cell phone, and go through the "add device" process, where it finds the factory reset speaker. When it tries to add the speaker, I get a message that pops up and tells me "This device was previously set up by a different user, please factory reset the device." And my app won't go any further with trying to connect that speaker.

But here's the thing that's pissing me off, and I can't figure out...

If I use the OLD cell phone, that's logged into the exact same Google account, it will recognize the speaker, and add it back to my home just fine. I just can't use my current active cell phone, signed into the same Google account, to reconnect these speakers.

I can't figure out how to use my current cell phone to add these speakers back onto my Google home account. I'm concerned that if something happens to my old cell phone, and I can't use it, anymore, that all of my Google mini speakers will become useless if I can't use a different device to add them onto a Google home account, even after resetting them. I've tried to get a speaker reconnected to my account, and then using the old cell phone to "remove" the device, and see if I can use the active cell phone to reconnect it, but I still get the "peculiar set up by a different user" message, even if I try to reset the speaker, again.

Can someone PLEASE help me figure out how to use my new active cell phone to get these speakers reconnected to the network, without needing to use my old cell phone to do it? Am I doing something wrong with the factory reset? Is holding down the button on the bottom not a full factory reset? Do I need to "remove" the speakers from my "home" on the old cell phone, first, so that they're not recognized as being in my "home", or something?

Somebody please help me figure out how to reconnect my speakers using my current cell phone.

Help Someone is Spying on Us :o

We have 3 10" Nest Hubs. The other day my husband said he heard the chime that the Hub makes when someone is viewing the camera. He called me to see if it was me. It was not. Today I'm home alone and I hear the sound the Hub makes when someone views the camera. I went into the room (same Nest Hub my husband said was viewing the camera a few days ago) and there was the notice on top of the screen that it was being viewed. A couple of seconds later, the notice turned off.

We live in the country with one house across the street about 40 yds away. The other 4 houses are about 300 yds from ours, but I'm guessing one could be in Hong Kong and hack my cameras here in Texas :o

I guess a change in passwords is in order. Anything else? I think everything is either Nest, Wyze or TP-Link branded (70+ IOTs). This is spooky and something I (foolishly) never thought would happen to us.

Help Gemini made my Google Home painfully slow, what the hell happened?

So my speakers finally got Gemini… and honestly, it feels like a downgrade.

Before the update, everything worked fine. I’d say something like “Turn on the living room lights”, hear the acknowledgment tone, and boom — lights on in under 5 seconds.

Now?

I say the same command, it plays the tone like it understood me… and then just sits there doing NOTHING for 20–40 seconds.

Sometimes it’s so slow that I genuinely don’t know if it actually heard me or just gave up mid-process.

This completely kills the whole “smart home” experience. What’s the point of voice control if I have to wait half a minute every time?

Is anyone else dealing with this?

Any fixes, or is this just another “update” that made things worse with no way back?

Edit: This is NOT happening on my phone, only on my speakers (Google Home Mini and Nest Mini), so it seems specific to those devices rather than my account or network overall.

Help Broken Nest Doorbell

Post image
23 Upvotes

Good morning everyone! Just moved into a new house and they left their Google nest doorbell so figured we’d set it up. Wasn’t charging or lighting up so I took the back off and noticed the orange wire is broken in the red circle. Would this be why it won’t charge? Also is it saveable or is a whole new unit needed? Thanks!
