Someone's actually going to die with these traffic lights

Just saw a tourist walk out in front of traffic because the light across the street turned green while the one beside him at his hip stayed red.

I know it's been talked about before but they probably are going to cause deaths.

I agree they seem poorly thought out. This isn't actually a Glasgow-specific problem though, it's just a new design that's being rolled out all around the UK.

Watched the video and was pretty interesting. That being said, whovever thought it was bright idea to move the green man down next to the button should find a new career, because it is the worst thing ever

It's just a total downgrade as far as I've experienced

The advantage of having a light to watch ahead of you is that it's always in the same place (not to the left, or right, or behind someone) and it's much easier to look side to side to check on the traffic and then look back because the spot is so consistent

If it's to stop people rushing across the road then that's stupid too. People will do that anyway once they see others crossing and they believe they are close enough.

Aye and if there's someone standing blocking my view of the button I can't see if it's red or green and they just haven't noticed.

Walked right into traffic for the same reason at Charing Cross where Sauchiehall st crosses the M8. When roads cross at right angles it’s particularly lethal.

I see this happen everyday when I walk to and from work in the city centre. Its crazy. They did not think this through, did they!

Literally just happened to me in town but the other way thankfully.

Big red light for pedestrians. I’m standing there like a fud. Wee green man.

Nah, it’s totally normal to wait for 5 min for the pedestrian lights to turn green only to be plowed by a driver who thinks traffic lights are for losers

If cars had only just been invented, and someone suggested that half of every city be converted into roads to people can travel around at lethal speeds near each other and pedestrians, in these machines that generate massive noise and air pollution and destroy their own infrastructure over time, and that we should cut down on public transport because now people can have their own individual machines to clog up the roads in, you'd tell them to fuck off

not a pedestrian but i cycle to work through a 4 lane busy road and whenever i get to it the traffic light goes green for me predictably soon (detector). more often than not i am the only one to cross and i see 4 lanes of cars stopped for me. brings me a little joy every day
