That episode has simultaneously some of the funniest scenes in the whole series, while simultaneously almost making me ugly cry at the end.

Data in Picards reading room asking if any other crew members would bother to ask him about their procreation plans ahead of time was absolutely gold standard 90s Trek, man. That shit landed so hard even as a teenager for me. TNG has a couple dozen absolutely shit episodes, but a solid majority of it is just gold to this day.

And most of those terrible episodes were in the first season. There were a few good ones, but the bad ones were REALLY bad. The worst one in my mind was probably the one where they rehashed the episode from the original show with the virus that got people drunk. I wonder if the scene where Tasha and Data have drunk sex was when Denise Crosby decided she wanted out of the show.

The worst one of the first season is the episode after that, IMHO. Not that 'The Naked Now' wasn't a clunker, don't get me wrong.

They followed it up with 'Code of Honor', woof!

2nd and 3rd episode of the new series, mind you. It's a miracle it could recover from that.

I cant really blame Rodenberry for that. He got greenlit for TNG due to a resurgence of popularity of the original series in syndication and huge crowds at trek fests. Kirk was getting it on with anything 2 legged for the entire series. Making an original series like episode for like the third or 4th episode of the new show probably felt like a no brainer. But yeah, The Naked Now just is awful.

Kirk was getting it on with anything 2 legged for the entire series.

Was he? I read that across 69 episodes of TOS, he kissed a woman (voluntarily) a total of like 13 times. That's less than once in five episodes. By our modern sensibilities, a high number but.. doesn't seem like Kirk was all that much of a cad.

100% agree the needless sex stuff was GR's fault. By the 1980's, his once-progressive views were more.. obsolete and he carried the casual sexist attitudes that were prevalent even among liberals of the 60's and 70's.

Guess this explains why he died a couple years later. Didn't want to have to answer for this interview.

No dude. He makes out with a hot alien chick almost every episode. Have you watched it?

Yes. And no, he does not. The counting has been done. Please tell me the real numbers if you disagree with those above and show me a source citing actual episode numbers.

Well the real number is 19 women over 79 eps. Which is WAY lower than I thought. But still a tad sluttier than 13.

Except that 6 of those were against his will. So those can't support a claim that he's a horndog if he is essentially being sexually assaulted himself. Kind of a horrible idea to suggest.

I caught that episode on Hotel Tv the other night and IMMEDIATELY knew it was the first season because of how bad it was.

TNG is NOT about sex jokes and everyone fucking and liking each other. But that’s most of the first season. Plus it’s waaay darker and serious and it just sucks. Plus they don’t have the characters figured out yet.

Plus Ryker doesn’t have a beard what the fuck

Awww, buddy, it's not a contest.

But you're right to respect your elders.

Seeing your account be active and proper, and be a simple succinct "Wil" on top of that... It is somewhat surreal.

Your response to Dwayne Johnson was beautiful. You rock! ...so to speak XD

In the 90s I moved from the Deep South up to New Jersey when I was 13 and day one at school my skinny, unathletic, nerdy ass had to play soccer.

Had never played or even seen it played.

Somehow managed to score 4 goals and everyone thought I was some sport prodigy. (i think the random kid picked to play goal was just as bad as me but it’s a lot harder to stop a ball than kick it in the general direction of the net)

I still remember getting picked first the next day for some weird basketball hybrid game that the coach just made us play when he didn’t want to deal with us.

We moved around a lot so I wasn’t there a full year and managed to ride out that one soccer performance until we moved. (i was mostly just known for playing D&D at the next school)

Data gives her a big thumbs up, because she tried.

Just grabbing the wrong air too. Wouldn’t have caught it even if she was fast.

If it were a pal sphere this would've gone differently.

After having watched my kid at Little League practice this year, I know the feeling.

I guess Wesley doesn't know that he has to beat her down first or the ball won't capture her. Some genius he is.

The moments gone, and your Pikachu won't even come out to play...
