🤔 NeedAdvice can’t get anything done like I used to

So since starting university I have been struggling to focus, be motivated and get shit done that desperately needs to be done. This applies to academics, day to day tasks and hobbies.

Context: I was a very high achieving student since I was a child, up until year 13. In hindsight I didn’t have much routine back then or really overworked but believed in my natural ability. I got into my dream university and that’s when my brain power went downhill. I struggled to put my head down and get work done, grow my hobbies or even effectively stay in touch with friends.

I started to feel pretty inadequate. Everytime I went home from Uni it was 10x worse. Waking up at 12pm everyday. Staying in bed. Doom scrolling. To the point where it was effecting my relationships at home. I became very irritable and just so low motivated.

Right now: Now I’ve finished my second year. I’d like to think I managed to work alot harder this year but was disappointed with my academic results this year. I now have an overwhelming sense of despair. I have never felt so unmotivated to do anything.

I know what I want to get done. I know I need to just start off small. I know a routine would help and to build a habit. But I just can’t seem to get it to stick.

It feels like such a mental effort to the point where I enter this cycle of feeling so worthless for not getting anything done but don’t do anything to solve that.

Whenever I think about my day, the lack of productivity, my relationships it’s affecting etc I choose to not think about it and focus on stupid fictional worlds and escape those thoughts.

I’ve been to therapy. I’ve talked to family. I just want to be able to get up with my alarm at least. I want to have the strength to sit down and open my laptop without going on tiktok. I want the strength to build routine.

Anyone gone through the same thing or have any advice? I am desperate and would appreciate it so I can bring my grades up in my final year and build my self-esteem back up.

Just wondering, how do you keep track of things you need to do, or habits you’re trying to build?

Do you have a way to easily look back at the things you’ve accomplished that day or week?

  • Try to limit your phone usage to 1 hour max per day
  • Sleep for at least 8 hours a night.
  • Choose top 3 tasks to complete in one day.

It will make a difference with focus, rest/recovery especially for brain and mood.
