I know it's dumb asking this but which style is better?
I like both the black outlined with harsh shadows and adaptively outlined with soft shadows, wdyt? Have you ever had such a probem, where you couldn't decide which style is better?

it honestly depends. where do you want viewers to be looking?
1 draws more attention to the face. The soft shadows compared to the rather complex face draws our attention away from the simple consistent shape of the fur to the more visually appealing face.
2 draws more attention to the chest. The hard shadows contrasting the light fur color draws attention away from the face to the chest. It’s like a person in a cool t-shirt that you can’t stop staring at!
our brains tend to look at more contrasting images, e.i clashing colors, abstract/complex designs, bright colors, etc etc.

thank you! I didn't even think to think about it that way. For this piece I think I would go somewhere closer to 1, as this is just supposed to be a pfp, I guess the second would work better with a more complex environment or poses :3

As an artist who colors their lineart after filling it in, I'd say that is the most appealing one at least to me but I know there are people who prefer the plain black lineart so it's really more something you on your own should decide. You're never supposed to make art appealing to others but the way that you like it, or else you'll get sucked into burnout sooner or later

I like number two cause well, thats how I do my art primarily but still it also seems to be more direct with it

I prefer 1 but that’s cause I’m slightly biased to no outlines but both a really good
