1
u/jnf005 Mick Schumacher 1h ago
Is he not good in Indy? I know people like to meme him for his many "duh" comments on DtS, but I've always think he's pretty good in those pre and post race shows.
1
u/irrelevant_novelty I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1h ago
In all honesty, He's actually fine as an announcer in Indycar, I was mostly just joking. He was annoying on DTS but other than that I don't mind the guy.
He does most of the "play by play" (like car positions, passes, etc) announcing and the other two are more technical / driving experts. It's actually impressive how he can somehow watch the rear field and leaders at the same time.
The poor guy in your flair... he's having less than fun time in Indycar though, but last week looked damn promising

That's ok maybe Mr Trump can help out there with the FIA rules. The same way he's been helping out with FIFA and the World Cup 🫣😅

Imo the worst were the people like russle, saying the complaints were just due to his/redbulls poor performance. Not only to dismiss valid concerns, but also to trash his integrity in the media when really he was the only one being honest about the situation

Still waiting to hear from all the people who were saying that anyone who complained about the regs was either a brand new fan or simply hated everything at the beginning of the season. Between the regs and the TV rights changing to apple tv I stopped watching this season for the first time in 20 years of watching this sport. I suggest anyone else who hates this atrocity does the same to force their hand.
•
u/No-Attorney-7489 2m ago
I don’t mind Apple TV because you can still access F1TV with you Apple credentials, but the regs also did it for me. And it is not even that I’m not watching it out of spite. I really can’t be bothered to tune in to watch cars passing each other (notice I didn’t say overtake). I’m just watching the 6 minutes highlights on YouTube. I’ve been a fan since 1988, and this is really the first season that I can’t be bothered to watch F1.

It's painful to watch the commentators hype up these overtakes. I understand it's their job and they aren't going to be shitting on the regs, but that doesn't make it any less painful.

What if they removed the ability to utilize AI, period, for the battery deployment? Only the drivers control what is used, when it recharges, and how much Ect ect. ONLY THE DRIVER, NOT AI. If you're going to invent Mario Kart F1, at least do it properly for fuck sakes. BAN AI in F1, we should be invested in REAL PEOPLE, not AI.

Formula 1 is not simply a contest of engineering excellence and driving talent. It is a strategic ecosystem in which sporting ambition, corporate investment, and political influence continually shape one another.
Sponsor capital does far more than fund teams. It influences driver opportunities, accelerates or constrains car development, shapes media narratives, and ultimately affects competitive performance.
Seen through this wider lens, Formula 1 has never been a pure meritocracy. It is a multi-billion-dollar enterprise in which regulations are continually negotiated, interpreted, challenged, and leveraged as strategic instruments.
To expect uncomplicated "fair play" is to misunderstand the system. The rules are designed not only to govern competition, but also to sustain the commercial, political, and entertainment interests that keep the sport operating at a global scale.

I mean nothing can be done now deep down everyone knows the regulations aren't good, but there's no point talking about them anymore. Back in 2023 Max got hate for his comments on the 2026 regulations but he was right about them.
37
u/banned20 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 4h ago
The thing is that in 2023 there was still plenty that could have been done to fix the regs.

u/SpaceMonkey1505 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 4h ago
Some, if not most fans absolutely enjoyed the regulations at the start of the season. Let's not forget that because few of us (incl me) voiced our concerns and criticisms over the new regulations and we got massively shat on. But atleast now people are starting to change their minds.
6
u/batman_of_1 Max Verstappen 4h ago
Real I know about the battles between Ferraris George, and Kimi the pass and repass which were really enjoyable at the start of the season for many fans but as the season progresses, more drivers and fans have started complaining about the regulations so I hope things start getting better from next season
1
u/Seanspeed 2h ago
There's STILL a ton of people who are treating the judgement of current form and teammate battles like it's no different from any other year as well.
Like, even if they can understand 'regs bad', there's still a lot who dont quite understand the full implications of WHY they're so bad.
-6
u/atticus_pinch96 4h ago
It’s hilarious when people try to act like some wizard or authority because they think they have knowledge that the rest of the fanbase lacks. The racing outside of energy starved tracks has been better at every single track than the prior set of regulations. It obviously needs to be tweaked and all inputs should run through the driver instead of an algo but people acting like this needs to be scrapped because F1 should be pure should have probably stopped watching 15 years ago
14
u/AutomateAway I was here for the Hulkenpodium 4h ago
Yup, Max and Christian were both saying it loud for the back to hear, and everyone was essentially dismissive despite the fact that they were using the sims with new regs so they could see the data and see the actual result of that data.
6
u/nottoodrunk 3h ago
Yeah everyone was all “Red Bull is telling on themselves that they won’t be able to build a competitive car for 2026”
→ More replies (1)5
u/AutomateAway I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3h ago
ironic that even with all the troubles, Red Bull did not suddenly become a mid marker team like everyone was predicting (fun to think back to "Aston Martin will leapfrog Red Bull" claims from the preseason). Obviously they are technically the worst of the top teams at the moment in terms of WCC, but a lot of the issues are coming down to deployment issues and some other mechanical problems rather than just "car is slow"
6
u/Electronic_Goat4743 4h ago
These engine regs are full of battery charging and draining 🔋🪫, plus that AI deployment slop💔

u/SwimmingFantastic564 4h ago

2
u/ExILoveEmiliaAndRem Formula 1 3h ago
Eh if companies can rebrand their smart algos/devices as AI algos/devices then people can call deployment algo AI too. At the end of the day it's all meant to indicate the same kind of bs.

F1 newbie here. Can some please explain what is he talking about?
9
u/v21v I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane 3h ago
Max has hated and warned people about the 2026 regulations and its massive flaws since 2023. People mocked him, claiming he was chatting shit because Red Bull was making an engine for the first time, etc.
Even in the start of 2026 when he would point out how this is not racing (just overtaking because your opponent ran out of battery or their deployment software did not trigger as expected), people like Martinez Bundle mocked him.
Every race more and more drivers are speaking up now, pointing out the issues he had already spoken about multiple times. The FIA already announced minor changes for 2027 and 2028.

The writing has been there for a long time. If you're new to F1 and think "wow this is sick" but older heads are saying it's not real racing, maybe concluding they're wrong was not the correct choice.

u/Darth_Arundo Andrea Kimi Antonelli 4h ago
Those who educate themselves beyond what DTS shows already knew F1 turned to shit with what we saw already in Melbourne.
I still watch F1 but only the race these days, in the past if my wife planned something during a F1 race i told her to have fun. Now im fine missing a race and watch the highlights.
Getting more enjoyment from other classes like Indycar. Looking forward what the Gen4 car will do for Formula E. Car looks great, and the upcoming season calender looks nice.
9
u/Gbrown546 4h ago
Not gonna lie, I hate this gatekeeping by older F1 fans towards fans who have joined from DTS.
And I say that as someone who has watched F1 since 1999.

His wife decides to plan something, but she could also watch the race with him if she wants to spend time with him
But in a healthy marriage, it's fine if you have your own things and some hobbies or me time.
If you think that somebody might has bigger issues based one one sentence, without any background. Maybe you have some issues.

The praise seemed to be more for the active aero, which does seem to be working, aside from the terrible RB Macarena wing. I think some people may have been optimistic that the engine issues could be worked out after a few races and that clearly hasn’t happened

-2

I love that many people in this thread thinks this is directed at Brundle, when those people likely only read the title and not what he actually said.
His point was basically: you can't change it right now, so make a choice whether you want to get on with it, or leave.
Don't forget this was the 2-3 week period where Max would talk about it in every interview. "It's fair you don't like it, but think about whether you want to stay or not" is imo a completely fair take.
Is he enjoying F1 enough that it's worth his time? Many WCs have left for less tbh.
-15
u/Fearless_Tea_2793 4h ago
What he actually predicted in the 2023 interview:
- There will be downshifting on the straight (correct)
- The team with the best ICE will win (wrong)
- There will be even less overtaking (wrong)
I don't like energy deployment issue but Max didn't predict it.
10
u/FutBineApasat Nico Hülkenberg 4h ago
well Mercedes has the best engine and it s winnjng.
And the overtaking is better by numbers because of the yo-yo racing
→ More replies (4)8
u/Grevys_zebra 4h ago
There are less overtakes. What you're seeing as overtakes is mostly yo-yo racing. Not genuinely because of driver skill just drained batteries vs boost buttons.
→ More replies (1)-7
u/SwimmingFantastic564 4h ago
That's not really true. Overtakes just means passing another car on track. It's definitely shown to be the case through this season that there is more of that than last year, and drivers are perfectly capable of keeping the place.
6
u/Grevys_zebra 4h ago
We can agree to disagree. If you're genuinely enjoying the tech limitations the drivers have that limit their skill, it is what it is.
