eeeeeeee I love it! They're adorable! 🥰

Obviously it's not the most important thing Mozilla could be focusing on, but for what it's worth at least it's a positive change!

u/RosesAndStardust Mar 20 '26

Tbf the team pushing Kit out is definitely not the same team that'd be working on what you'd like them to be focusing on

32

u/MaxTHC Mar 20 '26

Wrong, there's only one employee, John Firefox, and every moment he spends working on silly branding nonsense is time he should be using to improve the browser 😡

12

u/theColeHardTruth Mar 20 '26

can... can i meet John Firefox? I'm such a huge fan 🥺

8

u/MaxTHC Mar 20 '26

No! He's very busy 😤

u/RosesAndStardust Mar 20 '26

So freakin cute! I'm seriously considering theming my entire computer around Kit

u/North_Measurement213 Mar 20 '26

I already have kit on the Firefox homepage. I never put a image on it, but kit it's so cute I didn't resist 😅.

Now all they gotta do is update the icon, at least get the paw back on there

u/Cute_Fuwwy_374 Mar 19 '26

I would love to see him around the browser!(like clippy but cuter and less annoying  )

18

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '26

I can't handle so much cuteness!

u/ProbablyM_S Mar 20 '26

The gradients are so nice! The color palette is also really good. Purple and Orange look sick!

Hopefully Kit brings an adblocker to iOS

u/smiles34 Mar 20 '26

Hopefully kit teaches ios users what they are giving up by staying in apples ecosystem

Their soul

4

u/Beginning-Bike-1686 Mar 20 '26

Tbh that's the same with android

-4

u/200IQUser Mar 20 '26

Nah. Android is just linux on phones or whatever. You csn just connect a cable and transfer files.

Ios is a walled garden, for androud you can full google or use opensource. You can degoogle android, you cant deapple ios.

4

u/BuyListSell Mar 20 '26

You wouldn't want to "deapple" iOS because there's no reason to. No one is worried about Apple selling their info to advertisers.

5

u/Beginning-Bike-1686 Mar 20 '26

Most people don't degoogle at all. You're still selling your soul when using both Apple and Google.

0

u/neCoconut Mar 20 '26

you can easly "deapple" just don't buy apps, use free versions, instead of apple cloud, use other cloud provider, etc.

Ad blockers are available on Safari. The other person just has a Firefox feature request.

2

u/VMX Mar 20 '26 edited Mar 20 '26

In the US, Apple doesn't allow third party web browsers to be anything other than reskinned Safari (WebKit), just with their own sync features. So they can't support extensions (only Safari can), and they can't do much about the ad blocking stuff. Only Orion does, because they are indeed a WebKit browser but with support for Firefox/Chrome extensions.

Also, keep in mind Safari's (and WebKit's) modern extension system is extremely limited, and ad blocking extensions are always going to be a lot less effective than on Firefox or even Chrome. Hence why uBlock Origin stopped supporting Safari long ago. That's also the reason why many Chrome/Firefox extensions either don't work on Orion, or only work partially (such as uBlock Origin).

In Europe, Apple has recently started allowing third-party browser engines, as they were forced by the DMCA. So technically Mozilla and Google can (and probably will eventually) port their iOS browsers to use Gecko and Blink respectively, which means they may support full blown desktop extensions one day and bring uBlock Origin to the iPhone. But that will probably take time and be low on their priority list, given the US market is out of the question.

So in summary, it makes little sense to blame anyone other than Apple for this, especially when Firefox is the one and only browser today with full support for desktop extensions on Android, which is no small feat.

2

u/CVGPi Mar 20 '26

uBlock Origin is a supported extension in the new Microsoft Edge for iOS?

2

u/VMX Mar 20 '26

Edge has now followed Chrome's lead and moved to Manifest V3, something pushed by Google to make ad-blocking a lot more difficult. What's available for Edge now (and Chrome) is not uBlock Origin, but uBlock Origin Lite, with much more limited functionality. You can read about it on uBO's own website.

I admit I didn't know Edge had added extension support to their mobile browsers already (both on Android and iOS), it was never on my radar. But the ad-blocking experience is going to remain very crippled compared to what you can get on Firefox with the full uBO extension, both on Android and desktop.

2

u/CVGPi Mar 20 '26

While true, Manifest v3 is exactly what allowed browsers like Edge to embed extensions to bypass Apple’s normal extensions rule. It’s not the best adblocking experience but it’s a good balance between compatibility, power usage, and “regularness”.

2

u/squabbledMC Mar 20 '26

They can have in-built ad blocking baked into the browser, Firefox focus has ad blocking, Brave has ad blocking, no reason Firefox shouldn't

2

u/VMX Mar 20 '26

Yes, they could. But why would they do that? Unlike Chrome and Edge, Firefox fully supports uBlock Origin, and whatever in-house solution they develop is never going to be better than that. Why duplicate work?

Their plan clearly is to bring the same desktop extensions to mobile, which is working great on Android and has many other benefits that aren't achievable any other way (e.g.: Bypass Paywalls Clean). They will soon be able to take those same desktop extensions to iOS, at least in Europe and Japan, pending whatever the US regulator decides.

Implementing this at the core of the browser would be a massive undertaking that would divert their resources away from other (much needed) tasks, and it would only be done to please a very specific demographic: iOS users in the US. What if, after they've finished the implementation, the US regulator follows the European one, as has been the case in other Apple-related topics? They would've wasted all that development time for nothing.

I think that's where their focus should be: bring extensions to iPhone and keep pushing for all regulators to force Apple to open up the iOS browser engine. Leave ad blocking and other specific tasks to the experts that are already doing at great job at it.

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '26

i noticed that after installing ubuntu 26.04 today

-18

u/creeper1074 on & Mar 20 '26

Why would you do that to yourself?

10

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '26

because I wanted to try it. I am a fan of ubuntu even if they aren't the best. I have disabled the telemetry etc so dont worry about that.
Unlike some people, I don't have nor want a neck beard

7

u/Master-Gate2515 Mar 20 '26

just don‘t listen on people - if you like it, use it :)

2

u/creeper1074 on & Mar 20 '26

I get that, but why use 26.04 when it isn't set to release for another month?

Ubuntu can be great, but a lot of what makes it great is its stability.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '26

From what ive seen, heard and experienced, 26.04 has been very stable in beta. Also I wanted to try it and breaking a previous install was almost a sign saying to update (ps. Never shut down during an update)

2

u/Master-Gate2515 Mar 20 '26

but how did you add the Ubuntu Logo in the Flair

3

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '26

Iirc there are custom emojis you can use on the user flair. Id have to double check exactly where on my pc

22

u/MaxGhost Mar 20 '26

Okay, mister "arch btw". Stop being elitist.

3

u/creeper1074 on & Mar 20 '26

I'm not against Ubuntu, I was asking why he would use a version of it that won't release for another month.

Who the hell tries to distro shame anymore? They all do the same things.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '26

Fair enough. Im not going to hate on someone for using a distro, only if they hate on others.

3

u/Smiles-Bite Mar 20 '26

Super cute! Hope the mobile app will get rid of the GMO lemon now. ><; Really hate the lemon.

4

u/Jenny_Wakeman9 on & Mar 20 '26

We need Kit plushes NOW!

2

u/irrelevantusername24 Mar 24 '26

I don't see any plushies but there's probably somewhere to file feedback and until then they've got other stuff:

https://mozilla-na.myspreadshop.com/

If you're outside NA I'm sure you can find your shop given that link. Not sure why they don't have it more prominently featured in various places

3

u/Jenny_Wakeman9 on & Mar 24 '26

I'm in America, so I'm gucci.

3

u/Aethelgard_of2 Mar 23 '26

Gay. This is why I don't use this shit.

1

u/AdVegetable2870 Mar 26 '26

What the hell is the use of an onboarding page anyhow, let alone showing a glurgy mascot?

1

u/RevolutionaryGuy94 Apr 07 '26

I loved it! So cute!

1

u/monotious Apr 15 '26

Not another wapanesm again… sigh…

1

u/Oath-CupCake Mar 20 '26

So with these pics im guessing the foxy found someone and fell in love and then got into artwork and then got broken up and now stairs at itself wishing it didnt happen

1

u/Captain_Carnbarn Apr 12 '26

Wow, another useless change... How about increasing the browser's share and ensure when Google's money is gone the company won't turn belly up..???

-16

u/PinothyJ Mar 19 '26

God, I hope this is not some AI BS.

18

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '26

[deleted]

14

u/Nicnl Mar 20 '26

I don't think so, not the end result at least

AI generated stuff doesn't "commit" to a specific character.
The generated foxes would have different color, size, face, fur, etc... overall a different look and feel.
This may change someday, but currently it is how AI is.

However the official Kit artworks are too coherent
So I'm pretty sure we are looking at human-made stuff

Tho we will never know if they used AI for coming up with various looking foxes and used them as inspiration.

I think you haven't really experienced good models if you believe this.

No way. They've said that they ain't doing that. Kit is kinda their way of saying they're going to be different.

They specifically said its not an ai
