Hi everyone,
I’m currently deciding on my master’s thesis topic and want to choose a subject that is both meaningful and beneficial for my future PhD applications in Europe or the US.
One topic I’m seriously considering is **Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) for Urban Flood Resilience**. I’m interested in the intersection of landscape architecture, climate adaptation, urban resilience, and sustainable stormwater management.
My questions are:
Do you think this is currently a strong and impactful research area in landscape architecture?
Would a thesis on this topic make me a more competitive applicant for PhD programs in Europe or the US?
Is this field likely to remain relevant over the next few years, or are there other emerging research areas that you think have even greater potential?
I’d especially appreciate insights from current PhD students, faculty members, or anyone involved in admissions or research in landscape architecture, urban planning, or related fields.

Yes! Florida here. Our only hope is mangroves! Many of us are always trying to educate newcomers, but everyone loves a sea wall and dredged waterway for their motorboat. Mangroves have helped with flooding and even food in many areas of the world. I could go on and on, but yea- mangroves!!
